The Giants and the Royals make the second deal of the 2011 Hot Stove session.

Kansas City sends Melky Cabrera to San Francisco for LHP Jonathan Sanchez and AA Pitcher Ryan Verdugo.

The deal should give former Brewer Lorenzo Cain the chance to be the starting CF next season for the Royals.

Last week, Atlanta sent RHP Derek Lowe to the Cleveland Indians for A Pitcher Chris Jones. The deal was made possible thanks to Atlanta "eating" most of Lowe's $15 Million contract.

As WIAC alluded to, hopefully Lorenzo Cain gets his chance now.

Huge steal for the Royals IMO. I like Cabrera but there's no way he has the same value as a still relatively young lefty with those kinds of skills.

While I agree with you travis, Sanchez kind of reminds me of Parra...except maybe better to this point.

Did anyone else see that the Marlins intend to pursue Pujols or Fielder?

I'll see it when I believe it!

The Marlins idea of pursuing is probably a 5 year/$60 million offer.

It's a Catch-22 for the Marlins; they need to make a splash to get people to come to their new ballpark, but I'm not sure they'll get people to come regardless.

How much do you think hes worth? His stolen bases went down from a few years ago, and had a career year avg wise. If less than 14-15 mil a year i think its ok. If he stays healthy, Reyes,Weeks,Gomez and Braun would be a deadly speed combo. Then RR can be real aggresive, instead of waiting for Braun or Fielder to knock one out. Thoughts?

I think the bigger question would be: Do either Pujols or Fielder want to toil in Miami for the Marlin organization?

Saint Albert is visiting the Marlins today. But there's no chance he ever signs anywhere else

The first "big" Free Agent signing of the off-season:

Jonathan Papelbon agrees to sign with the Phillies pending a physical. This move may allow Daniel Bard a chance to close for the Red Sox, unless they go after one of the other closers on the market.

Harder to hate them now, but with Pujols, Molina, and Carpenter still there, I'm sure it'll all come back to me on Opening Day next year.

If the Cubs were ever relevant again maybe you can join in too.

The Marlins offered Reyes 6 yrs and $90mil. Reyes likes Guillen, but sources say he wants a minimum of $100mil. Really, for as injured as he is, he wants $100mil?

And they are going to move Hanley Ramirez to CF? Why?

Melvin met with Aramis Ramirez's agent yesterday afternoon per ESPN Chicago.

Personally, I would love for the Brewers to sign Ramirez. He's a proven, consistent third baseman that will give them some good power numbers and protect Braun in the lineup. You don't know what McGehee is ever going to do again. He could be his awesome self again or he could be the next Bill Hall. Sign the proven guy in Ramirez.

Ramirez's agent is the same one for Rafael Furcal.

Ramirez will turn 34 next year. Why would you give a guy that old a big deal? This isn't 2004 anymore, players are properly aging nowadays and you can bet Ramirez will experience a decline over the next 3-4 years, which is how long of a deal he is looking for. Not to mention he's had injury issues and hasn't played in 150 games since 2006. No thanks, unless he's interested in signing a two-year deal with a mutual/team/incentive-based option for a third year.
