Ill Take a look at Sectionals & To get to State

D1

Sectional 1

Got Appleton East, Marshfield, Superior, Chippewa Falls & Stevens Point come to mind. My Pick is Appleton East.

Sectional 2

Got Bay Port, Sheyboygan North, De Pere, Preble, Arrowhead, Nicolet Hamilton & Menomonee Falls. Not to many teams I am familiar with but Nicolet earns my Pick

Sectional 3

Muskego, Mukwonago, Middleton & Madison West really the only teams that stick out. My pick is Middleton

Sectional 4

King, Vincent, Case & Pius grab my Attention. Ill go with Vincent

D2

Sectional 1

Kind of a weak bracket. New London, Logan, & Holmen really stand out. New London should breeze through this one again.

Sectional 2

Notre Dame, Waupun & Beaver Dam kind of the only 2 in the Picture. Kinda Tough to Pick but I think Beaver Dam will pull it out.

Sectional 3

Got Reedsburg, Wilmot, Monona Grove & Whitewater. Im gonna go with Reedsburg

Sectional 4

Kinda weak as Eisenhower & Whitefish Bay are really the only 2 Good Programs. I Think Whitefish Bay & Eisenhower meet up again in the Finals. Whitefish bay surprised many last year so I think its their game to win.

D3

Some unknown teams to me But I will go with Brillion, Dominican, Adams-Friendship & Westby

D4

Regis, Algoma, Howards Grove & Neillsville. I wouldnt Doubt Cuba City or Fennimore though.

D5

Newman, Heritage Christian, Seneca & Owen-Withee

Some Areas a bit unknown to be so some might not seem right. I guess once seeding comes around I will have a better idea.

High 5, NL bulldogs for your thoroughness. I may not agree with all of your final picks, but I think you covered the favorites in each sectional of each division. Nice job.

Watch out for Lourdes in D4, it took one of Algoma's best games of the year last year to beat them. On paper, they have similarities to a Kewaunee, which is the type of team Algoma does not match up well with.

Big time. They are a decent team but have beaten no one. I will be SHOCKED if they make it to state. I see RC as the clear favorite in that sectional. That is pretty ironic as they are probably not as strong as they have been in recent years

General Sectional Question
How does the WIAA set the teams in the sectionals.
I've seen sometimes the School's Girl's and Boy's BB teams are in the same sectional.
This year I'm seeing some are not in the same.
My only logic is that they are ranked?
Any info.?
Thanks!

Lourdes vs. Regis would be a great matchup at state

I obviously hope it doesn't happen, but from what I have gathered I think Lourdes would be a tougher match up for Regis than Algoma would be.

Clear favorite? Adams friendship is highly ranked and Broadhead lost their star player so it kind of a weak sectional. East Troy girls are good and have played plenty of stiff competition this year. I would say it comes down to Richland Center and ET in the finals. Since Adams Friendship hasnt played any really good opponents they ar hard to judge. I feel sorry for Carly Mohns of Broadhead, and outstanding player and team but, has gone down with an ACL injury.

I would say you haven't done your hw. Its not weak. Lakeside Lutheran has 4 loses but still beat Menomonee Falls who is in a three way tie for first in D2 Greater Metro.

Whitewater is ranked D2 and only has one loss to Lake Mills.

Not a weak sectional at all. East Troy is tough. For 12 teams in one Group. Brodhead, East Troy, Edgerton, Lake Mills, Lakeside that is a pretty solid group. Brodhead 14-3, East Troy 15-1, Edgerton 12-4, Lake Mills 13-3, Lakeside 12-4. Just those 5 teams the record combined is 66-15 that sounds weak?

Yes, Oshkosh Lourdes will be a tough out for anyone who plays them in D-4. Don't be surprised to see them in Madison.

The Knights' (18-1) only loss was a respectable 50-39 setback to defending D-1 champ and currently ranked #1 Nicolet (16-1) in a Holiday Tournament, the same tourney in which Lourdes dismantled another traditional D-1 power, Big 8 conference leader Middleton (13-4), 67-50.

Lourdes also posted an impressive victory, 60-49, over a better-than-average D-1 team, Green Bay Preble (10-6), earlier in the season.

Rankings do not factor into sectional placement. The sectional placements are determined by the WIAA before the season begins, based primarily (with some minor exceptions) on geography. The teams within each sectional are then seeded at the end of the regular season for tournament play.

The divisional placements (also determined before the season starts) are based on enrollment-size.

Yup...WIAA starts in the NW part of the state and use enrollment to build the 5 Divisions as they go across and down the state.

Nicolet and Pius girls teams are Div. 2 size school but choose to play up in Div. 1 for the tournament...maybe there are other teams like this that the boys teams chooses to stay and play in their respective Division.

No questioning that both Lourdes and Algoma prepare themselves very well for the tournament - MJ highlighted Lourdes SOS, but here is Alogma's: wins over FRCC teams De Pere (1st), aformentioned Preble (T3rd), and Pulaski (7th) as well as wins over two Wisconsin Little Ten teams in Beaver Dam (1st) and Slinger (T4th). And for good measure, dismantled rival conference Olympian's second place team Manitowoc Lutheran.

Have heard that on Thursday Alogma lost Taylor Schmidt to a knee injury. No idea on the details, but if she is out for the rest of the season obviously a huge blow to Algoma's conference and state chances.

I have heard that it is a torn ACL. Post season will be tough for Algoma as Schmidt plays a huge roll for the Wolves.

Your right, i must have been thinking of the boys ! I didnt do my homework i was just going by ranked teams. Top to bottom is tough then but, aside from ET,Adams Friendship, and Richland Center no ranked teams. Rankings can mean squat though, i just started following girls bball and i imagine same standards apply for guys and girls bball. My bad -1 cool point

I'll be doing an article this afternoon with several pieces of injury news. Some unfortunately bad. There are a couple players that may be coming back from injury though.

Injuries are terrible, my biggest pet peeve in life. Does anyone know the best exercises to prevent ankle sprains and ACL or MCL injuries? Was going to school for physical therapy so i should know this but, had a career change. Just wondering because theirs been some bad knee and ankle injuries to athletes across the state. Any suggestions?
