It's sad how far the program has fallen. They are in need a a good young coach to energize the program. I have 1 solution that would be a huge help to rebuilding UWEC.

Blow Up Zorn. It is a terrible qym. Why would a quality kid want to play there when some many of the other WIAC Schools have much better facilities? They need a better place to play basketball. That sort of thing matters to kids now days when it never used to.

New is good, yes, but the downfall began when a vindictive AD stripped the banners from the ceiling and created a cold, vacuous black hole with no attachment to its storied past.

You're right Formerscribe, it was sad to see those banners torn down. Ol' Ken Anderson was a tough coach to beat even Bo Ryan will attest to that, Bo didn't win too many against Ken.

So the AD could get two banners made - one to list the accomplishments of the men's program and one to do the same for the women, which at the time was very, very limited. Needless to say, myriad banners dangling from the ceiling when the lights were turned on had much more of an affect on a prospective player than a singular banner at one end of the arena more than 30 feet off the ground.

To make matters worse, she had the banners taken down without warning. When the longtime boosters and members of the men's backcourt club inquired about the whereabouts of the emblems of the WSUC, NAIA District 14 championships and NAIA national tournament placings, she informed them "they are being cleaned and will be re-installed soon."

Crock!

Don't even bother with a national search like last spring. Hire last year's runner-up for the coaching opening, Eric Gardow & be done with it!

I'm a UW-Eau Claire alumnus, class of '74, and I believe the developments within the men's basketball program the last few years are an embarrassment. I think it's time to start looking at the AD and the role he's playing in the gradual demise of this once-proud and very successful program.

He must have known what a bad facility he had before he signed last year. Has he made any statements as to why he left after only one year?

Ken Anderson is alive, well, retired and living in Arizona. In February of this year, UW-Eau Claire dedicated the court inside Zorn Arena in Anderson's honor.

Coincidence that the person who hired Green takes a job elsewhere and Green decides to leave?

Did UWEC Athletic Director Scott Kilgallon step down also? If so, when? And, where is he going?

I had to look up his team too and saw a couple names I remember. Maurice Hargrow from the Gophers and Antonie Broxsie from Oklahoma. Sounds to me like he'd be a great hire for EC.

No doubt your facility can have an effect on your program, but you'll pardon me if I find equating removing banners from the gym to a decade long slide in success to be a little too simplistic of an answer.

It's a little like saying a movie flopped because the theater didn't put up a poster for it in the lobby.

Rumor mill is that Kyle Green could be in for a job at Northern Iowa , if true we should say good riddance to anybody who simply looked at UWEC as a stepping stone .

Personally I say lets contact Lisa Stone .

I think he stated that the slide "began" then not that the banners, caused the slide.

So which is the better job? Eau Claire or Oshkosh?

As a 40+ years fan of the WSUC - WIAC, I honestly believe the two job openings are equally attractive. It wasn't that long ago that both schools were perennial top-4 teams in the conference.

Exactly. That's the point when emphasis on the men's program began to wane, to the point it is today.

It is sad how both major mens programs are just average. There is no excuse the UWEC Football and Basketball teams cannot compete with whitewater for conference dominance.

Eau Claire from a football stand point under performs based on the talent they have on the field. the basketball program was been waning for the last 5 years.

I believe Eric Gardow would be a nice fit. he is a local guy, who has coached at UW Stout as an assistant. nice fit for UWEC

Eau Clarie has a lot of to offer. I do not see why they are average or below average. nice big city with small town atmosphere.

Totally disagree with your comments , over the past years since Ken Anderson hung up the whistle I would say UWEC has overachieved in both basketball and football . The truth is the results in both sports have been better than the talent on the rosters . Could you please name UWEC grads of the last 20 years who were considered the best in the WIAC at the time they played ?
