Rev up the Dwight to LA chatter now. Rumor last night was that Rockets, Lakers and Magic was the new 3 way deal in the works. It would include Bynum to Houston, Dwight to LA and a bunch of cap-friendly, prospective players and picks to Orlando. Something like, Patrick Patterson, Kyle Lowry, a choice of one of the three Rockets picks (Lamb, T. Jones, Royce White) and a few 1st rounders wouldn't be a bad pick up for the Rockets. I would make LA and Houston take some of my crap back, like Richardson, Duhon and Turkoglu.

Kyle Lowry was traded to Toronto wasn't he?

True. Good call. Maybe Martin then.

Rockets to amnesty Luis Scola in hopes of freeing up more cap to take on the additional contracts necessary to complete a trade for Dwight Howard. The Mavericks want Scola when this becomes official.

The Lakers are also looking to acquire either Antawn Jamison or Elton Brand for the veteran minimum. If I were the Lakers, I would amnesty Metta World Peace so I could get Grant Hill and either one of those two guys.

After what I just read on ESPN.com it appears as though Houston and Orlando will essentially be swapping entire rosters for the most part in this Dwight Howard trade.

In other news, Ramon Sessions is headed to the Bobcats. After they were informed of Sessions' intent, the Bobcats withdrew their qualifying offer to DJ Augustin, who is now headed to Indiana. The Pacers wasting no time in finding a replacement backup PG after Collison's departure.

The Timberwolves also amnestied Darko Milicic.

The 76ers sign Kwame Brown to a 2 year, $6 million deal. If you feel like giving away $6 million for nothing in return, why not just donate it to a charity or something? This guy has been around for a decade now and hasn't developed or "realized his potential"...yet this scrub always manages to find his way onto an NBA roster somehow.

Daryl Morey is such an interesting case. Clearly a brilliant guy with a lot of his advantage taken away by a league that legislates against stupidity. Morey has a track record of consistently identifying undervalued players and building around them. The issue is that the NBA has a max contract, so guys like LeBron James and Kevin Durant are necessarily undervalued by their market offers.

So Morey has this huge advantage in signing mid-tier guys, but he can't get a superstar because he lacks the advantage. I'd really like to see him just get somebody and see what he can do with it.

Do the Bucks plan on doing anything at all for the rest of free agency? I thought they would have tried to have pick up a shooting guard/small forward.

They have Ellis, Mbah A Moute, Lamb, Dunleavy and Harris. I hope they don't bring in any other 2's or 3's with the intent to play them. I just want to see our young guys get minutes.

If anything happens, I'm hoping it's amnestying Gooden and maybe trading Udoh.

Just to be clear, you're not advocating the lack of a salary cap, just eliminating max contracts for individual players? So that a guy like LeBron James could be signed for $35 million a year and would almost certainly refuse to play for $16 million?
Ricky Rubio will be a Pamela Anderson sized bust.

Dallas went from being totally gutted 2 weeks ago to being a team that could be a sleeper contender in the West next season with these additions...

Darren Collison
Dahntay Jones

Luis Scola, amnestied by Houston, signed by Suns-Suns won over Scola by bidding 3/13. Scola is a nice player and would be a dynamite addition to a contender, but the Suns are building this mish-mash team. This now, buries Markieff Morris back to the bench after he showed some nice production.

Kings sign Aaron Brooks to 2/6.6 deal-another surprising move after Isaiah Thomas broke out last season and they have Jimmer behind him. Where does this leave Jimmer?

Lakers set to sign Antawn Jamison-a huge signing for the Lakers who fits in very well in their frontcourt as a bench guy.

OJ Mayo to sign with Mavericks-as MBC mentioned, a nice addition for the Mavs, depending on the contract. He definitely needed a new scenary after he just never got a great opportunity in Memphis.

Linsanity continues with offer sheet-a nervous couple of days for Knick fans and the front office. Are they really going to move forward with ANOTHER attempt at a Raymond Felton era as their starting point guard?

Wolves up offer for Batum to 4/46-the official offer sheet is more than expected after failing to work a sign and trade for Batum. Apparently they were offering the kitchen sink in the form of Derrick Williams among others. I still expect Portland to match.

Josh Childress amnestied by Suns-remember when many Bucks fans wanted us to offer Childress the same contract a year or two ago? Yuck.

Hornets match Eric Gordon offer sheet-and he quickly backed down from his public rampage of not wanting to return to New Orleans.

Kwame Brown signs 2/6 deal with 76ers-HAHAHAHAHA. Not even for the vet minimum? And for TWO years?

A starting lineup of Collison, Mayo, Marion, Nowitzki, and Kaman with Brand and Vince Carter off the bench certainly sounds like a playoff bound team to me. Even though they missed out on Nash and Deron Williams, they seemed to revamp their roster very well.

Mike Miller states he is coming back to the Heat and will not have surgery on his back. James Jones has also stated he will not retire and will be back with the Heat. Gotta imagine Jones will be buried on the bench unless a few guys get injured ahead of him. The Heat bench rotation is probably going to be Allen or Battier (depending on who starts), Miller, Lewis, Haslem, Cole, and a limited Joel Anthony.

Ray Allen will start over Battier. It would be idiotic to have Allen sit on the bench and not start him. You could move Wade to point or the small forward postion make Bosh center and Lebron the 4 even though his production may drop a little in that spot

Correct me if I'm wrong, but LeBron played the 4 nearly the whole playoffs and his production was just fine. Wade will not move to the 3, however, he could run the show at point.

Ray Allen won't start for the Heat. He was being phased out in Boston as it was and at his age with his ankles, he can't log starter's minutes for an 82 game season. He is a limited, one dimensional specialty player at this stage of his career and guys like that are more suited to come in off the bench.

Heat's lineup will look like this opening night...

PG: Chalmers / Cole
SG: Wade / Allen
SF: James / Battier
PF: Lewis / Haslem
C: Bosh / Anthony

I agree that Allen won't be a starter, but it wouldn't surprise me if he played a pretty significant amount of time. He can come in for Chalmers while Wade plays point, he can give Wade a breather, and he also gives the Heat another dangerous shooter when they go small (for example, Chalmers/Wade/Allen/James/Bosh). I think a line-up of Wade/Allen/James/Lewis/Bosh will actually be the most dangerous offensively, but I would be surprised if it was used for more than short amounts of time.

I don't know if I'm advocating for something, but eliminating the max contract would certainly bring parity to the league and help the smartest GMs get a bigger advantage. With guaranteed contracts, it would also lead to some colossal mistakes that would put teams in the basement for years.

The reason you need a superstar to win in the NBA is because there is a salary cap and a max contract for superstars. In a salary capped league (assuming all teams are at or around the cap), the best teams are the ones that get the best value for the salaries they pay their players. Because superstars have a max contract, they are by far the best value guys--if they are truly superstars.

Jordan Hill has elected to re-sign with the Lakers, a good keep by L.A. in my opinion, as I thought he played with great energy and served his role very well when he was on the floor for them at the end of last season. This will also allow the Lakers to get Jamison time at the SF position if need be, as that has been the #1 position of inconsistency for the team in recent years and with Hill in the frontline rotation, Jamison won't need to be relied on to play the bulk of his minutes at the 4 spot coming off the bench.

Any move that puts further and further distance between Josh McRoberts and the court is a very, very good one.

The Lakers need to give up on the Dwight Howard thing. Bynum is the future. They've suddenly developed an excellent backcourt in Gasol and Bynum with Jamison and Hill off the bench. All of those guys can play alongside the other.

The Lakers need to now focus on the wing position. Are they really comfortable with Artest, Ebanks and Eyenga at the 3? I would think some realistic options behind Kobe and at the 3 are: Josh Howard, Tracy McGrady, Marquis Daniels, Michael Redd, Kelenna Azuibuike, and Andres Nocioni.

Their best move is to fill out the roster as is now with vet minimum type guys. If things aren't working out in the terms of obvious contender, trade Gasol for a wing like Iguodala.

And to add insult to injury, they had that dynamic wing player 2 years ago and they let him walk. You can find him knocking down every shot in sight for the crosstown rival Clippers summer league squad.

The 76ers and Nuggets have been brought into trade talks with the Magic and Lakers in a deal that revolves around Dwight Howard.

Howard and Al Harrington would end up with the Lakers, Andre Iguodala would end up with the Nuggets, Andrew Bynum would end up with the 76ers, and Pau Gasol and Arron Afflalo would end up with the Magic.

The fact that these trade discussions were "breaking news" on ESPN is a joke
