Interesting.......why don't they move him up a grade or two to play against teenagers that are more developed?

Pee Wee's rule of 135 pounds is stupid, imo. You should have a weight limit for ball carriers at the youth level, but not a weight limit for players.

That being said, the kid has other options. He looks like a grown ass man, and if he has any sort of decent coach they should be able to turn him into a force.

Yeah, can't he just play up?

I know in some states, youth players can play up on the HS teams based on talent or size.

I remember hearing about a guy who later played at Kentucky, I think it was, who played varsity football in like 2nd grade, until the state stepped in and said that was a little too young.

EDIT: Yeah, his name was Dennis Johnson.

If I was that kids High School coach I would be doing 1 of 2 things.

Play him on my freshman or JV

or

Have the booster club pay for his personal trainer.

he wasn't refused because of his size he was refused because of his grade, was the way I understood it...he needs to start playing school ball not pee-wee...I don't know about Texas but my Middle School had a 7th grade team...just can't believe that a football crazy state like Texas wouldn't have junior high school football

Yet another case of society needing to be parents and then getting bad press because of it .

The young man is too old and heavy for pee wee yet would like to play pee wee because he has no experience .

Is there no adult in that backward state who can solve this problem with 1 phone call ?

Let him him play pee wee until it is clear he needs to move up , stop treating children like they adults .

A couple people have mentioned this already, but this is the way I understand it. If you're less than 7th grade, then you can weigh more than 135 pounds, but you aren't allowed to carry the ball. If you are in 7th grade, you can still play pee-wee, but only if you are less than 135 pounds. It sounds like this is a rule used to allow 7th graders to play if they are too small to get significant playing time on their school team.

Right when I saw this, I didn't understand that, and thought that it was a rule for kids of all ages. I thought that was pretty ridiculous because when I was in 7th grade, I played QB, and I weighed 125, which put me close to the cut-off. And I had a few teammates playing runningback and tight end who I know weighed more than me.

I played in the Chippewa Falls Youth Football League in 5th and 6th grade. Their rule is 100+ can't carry the ball, which is pretty good for 5th-6th graders, in my opinion. Of course, you still get some huge kids playing on the line (I had a teammate who was 222 lbs in 6th grade, I will never forget that), but it's not nearly as big of a deal as an early-bloomer playing RB.

Well, it's a lot closer to high school ball than it is to college or NFL. Sometimes things just don't have a place, so you put it somewhere that's as close as it can get.

In 7th grade, you have to be able to recognize potential...with his size and a little extra effort from his coaches, he could be dominating...the one thing I have always heard is that you can't teach size...what coach wouldn't like the opportunity to mold this boy into a capable player

A kid from Stratford 13 8th grade. 6'4 270lbs will be a kid and a team to watch for in a couple years. I expect he may get plenty of varsity experience next year. Not directly related to your subject but someone that will be talked about in the near future.
