Here is the SWC schedule. Note that for this year they are playing 3 of the other 5 SWC teams twice. I'm not sure if both games count as conference games but I would assume they will since the SWC's teams are only playing one NC opponent each.

This is the list of SWC schools playing the other SWC schools twice:

Dodgeville - Platteville, Prairie du Chien, River Valley.
Lancaster - Platteville, Prairie du Chien, Richland Center.
Platteville - Dodgeville, Lancaster, River Valley.
Prairie du Chien - Dodgeville, Lancaster, Richland Center.
Richland Center - Lancaster, Prairie du Chien, River Valley.
River Valley - Dodgeville, Platteville, Richland Center.

Week 1 - 08/23
Prairie du Chien at La Crosse Aquinas (at Onalaska? According to the MVC site, they are also still scrimmaging the week before?)
Westby at Richland Center
Darlington at Platteville
(Lancaster)
(River Valley)

Week 2 - 08/30
Richland Center at River Valley
Dodgeville at Platteville
Lancaster at Prairie du Chien

Week 3 - 09/06
River Valley at Dodgeville
Platteville at Lancaster
Prairie du Chien at Richland Center

Week 4 - 09/13
Dodgeville at Prairie du Chien
Platteville at River Valley
Lancaster at Richland Center

Week 5 - 09/20
Prairie du Chien at River Valley

For week 1, River Valley might be hosting Brodhead-Juda, but I'm not sure though it's a shame the SWC can't find another league or two to do some crossover games.

Can you blame the South Central for not continuing their crossover series with the SWC? The two years they had that scheduling arrangement the SWC dominated the series only dropping 3 or 4 games total.

Yeah, maybe the Rock Valley would be a conference to look into doing a crossover series with but number of schools kinda dictate who you can go against.

The SWC just dominated the Coulee and SCC to the point that neither conference wanted to continue either crossover series. The only other conferences that could work would be the SWAL (if it really was an option, the two leagues will still be working together), the RVC and maybe the Capitol Conference. The MVC has 8 schools so it really wouldn't work, same with the Badger Conference.

I believe it was you amped that wondered why the SWC didn't try and do something with the Milwaukee City Conference. I think it should be really looked it for the 2014 season. It sure beats playing other schools in your conference two times a season, which should be the LAST option for conference scheduling. If scheduling the City Conference isn't a possibility, then the conference needs to look elsewhere around the state because this years schedule setup is just not a great option.

At the very least for this year, with 8 conference games, the SWC should get at least 4 teams in the playoffs.

I don't think I was the one that brought that point up, but I think it would be worth a shot. The City is playing teams from all across the state (and out of state) again this year and in past years just to fill out the schedule.

Milwaukee King plays at Cedar Grove-Belgium, at Sturgeon Bay, and has a home game against Colby.

The Milwaukee Washington Tri-op plays up at Little Chute.

Riverside and Madison/Custer head up to perennial UP power Menominee (MI) in Week 3 and 9 respectively.

Ozaukee plays a few City teams this year (Bay View and Morse-Marshall)

However the City has a funky conference slate that features only six conference games in a league that has eleven teams.

Recently as well the Central Lakeshore, Central Wisconsin-Ten, Olympian-Packerland Small and the Trailways Small have lost members to 8-man so the conference scheduling has become difficult in those areas.

Yeah, with Iowa now closed off for non-conference scheduling, the SWC is going to have to start making longer than normal trips for NC scheduling. Yes, the Coulee and SCC schools weren't close drives but they were the closest options available that fit the same conference demographics. That is no longer an option for the foreseeable future so the SWC schools are going to have to increase their scheduling outreach.

This is the list of SWC schools playing the other SWC schools twice:

Week 1 - 08/23
Prairie du Chien at La Crosse Aquinas (at Onalaska? According to the MVC site, they are also still scrimmaging the week before?)
Westby at Richland Center
Darlington at Platteville
(Lancaster)
(River Valley)

Week 2 - 08/30
Richland Center at River Valley
Dodgeville at Platteville
Lancaster at Prairie du Chien

Week 3 - 09/06
River Valley at Dodgeville
Platteville at Lancaster
Prairie du Chien at Richland Center

Dodgeville at Prairie du Chien

Prairie du Chien at River Valley
Lancaster at Dodgeville
Richland Center at Platteville

Week 6 - 09/27
River Valley at Lancaster
Dodgeville at Richland Center
Platteville at Prairie du Chien

Week 7 - 10/04
River Valley at Richland Center
Platteville at Dodgeville
Prairie du Chien at Lancaster

Week 8 - 10/11
Dodgeville at River Valley
Lancaster at Platteville
Richland Center at Prairie du Chien

Week 9 - 10/18
Prairie du Chien at Dodgeville
River Valley at Platteville
Richland Center at Lancaster

Illinois may have to be a possible option for non-conference games. There is a local conference (Northwest Upstate Illini Conference) that have enrollments that are comparable to the SWC schools (Ironically that is Scales Mound (Benton's co-op partner in football) conference) ranging from 75-447).

Iowa revamped their football district system a few years ago so that it realigns every 2 years. With 6-9 teams in a district and the fact that the state starts the week after Wisconsin does, Iowa had to stop all out of state scheduling because of needing to make sure they got all district games scheduled. Then schools that had old rivalries broken up (like say two schools PdC used to play in Waukon and Decorah, which aren't in the same district for this current realignment cycle) so they would use the week or two set aside for non-district games. Which then leaves WI schools the odd man out.

1. The Rock Valley plays crossover games against teams in the division and they count in league standings, so doing crossovers with the SWC probably wouldn't be too feasible as they'd only have weeks 1 & 2 open and do a lot of scheduling with the Southern Lakes teams in that window.

2. Richland Center played one of the City schools a few years ago, but I'm not sure its a very good option for either league based on travel.

3. Possible SWC realignment will be on the agenda once again at the Board of Control meeting in two weeks but I'm not sure they'll make a final decision. We'll see. I hope to be there to report on it.

Right, if the RVC isn't an option for the SWC to do crossover games with, it eliminates another conference close to them that is within a decent travel time for the conference schools. If the SWC somehow avoids getting split up in two weeks, they can't keep this years setup for scheduling. They are going to have to look for options that aren't great for travel. The league is basically between a rock and a hard place right now.

I will try to update that when I have time, but this week is shot. I have to write thirteen pages on by senior thesis, practice and three matches this week.
