Holy Cow, that is an easy schedule.

These interviews are semi scripted. They let the person know the kind of stuff that is coming and they urge the person to just keep responding as quickly as possible. Colbert isn't actually trying to embarrass them, he's trying to spotlight them, he just uses his character to do it.

When I saw the tag line was "Loud, Proud, and Loaded with Beer", I was a bit worried.

Absolutely mind boggling. Whats even better is that Larry Sanders had more points, too, but they decided to keep him off the team.

Melvin gave up 4 marginal prospects of which only 1 (Cain) has done anything at the MLB level, and not much at that, for essentially an all star season + and a deep playoff run.
Then after the deep playoff run and almost no shot at the playoffs with an expiring deal, flipped him for a Stud ML ready SS and 1 highly touted minor league arm.
Short of Milwaukee actually winning the world series, the Grienke saga pretty much could not have worked out better for the team.
In what universe is this move (Probably a top 2 Melvin move) held against him? Last time I looked A Escobar was having a nice season with Kansas City 4 marginal prospects and Escobar perhaps He had a nice season in 2012 with Kansas City too I wouldnt call him a marginal prospect - he ended up hitting 293 last year in 155 games/177 hits Not a bad ss Yes, I should have added that. Although, I've never been a fan of him, he has been valuable to them. However, the Brewers are much better today, than they were a day before the Grienke trade.

Are you serious? You might want to check your numbers. He spent a season and a half with the Crew. Ok, a season and 1/2 If that makes you feel better - so be it It was still a 'rent a pitcher' deal as we all knew he would never sign with the Brewers. Same deal with CC although CC did carry the Brewers while he was with them. I dont consider either of them even semi-long term I think 3 seasons would be semi long term and 4 and up would be long term By the way - how did either the Greinke or CC deal help the Brewers pitching longterm?? They didnt. Brewer organization needs to look at teams like Oakland, StLouis, Cinn, etc and find out how they develop pitchers. Brewer system simply isnt doing it the way they are running it now "Rent-a-pitchers" don't come with 2 years on the books, you're wrong in the aspect. And Diener, what would the Braves need Aoki for? Are they going to pull the 3rd baseman and play 4 outfielders? For the 2nd time, not trying to come up with ideal trades for both teams, just trying to come up with a player equivalent to see if RK would be willing to trade Aoki.

I cant recall any. Lohse looks like one that might work out, so no way I would trade him this soon. Trading Hart???????? No team is going to give up much for a guy who hasnt even played this year. Last thing the Brewers need is a 'run of the mill starter' who another team WILL trade. If the guy is any good - the team wont trade him. Would be absolutely stupid to trade Aoki - very solid leadoff guy and very solid corner outfielder that can if needed play CF Aoki may be near 31 or near 31, but he is in tremendous shape and may play another 8-10 years - why give him away???? Perhaps you could trade Hart after he plays a month and is on a hitting tear - but that is 2 months or more in the future.
Team HAS to be changed via a new manager OR stay with RR and live with it. Players are not that bad - even the pitchers. Relievers other than Henderson have been either hot and cold or terrible(Axford) Peralta,Estrada,Lohse and Gallardo - I wouldnt give up on any of them YET Fiers and Rogers - no clue on those 2 guys I thought and hoped they would be in the rotation this year - didnt happen and most likely wont.
With all the losing - bring up the AAA 2nd baseman and give him a 10-12 game look - team isnt winning with Weeks, so what is the harm? Can always send the guy back down and we all know Weeks isnt in the long term plan for the Brewers. I suspect the OWNER has alot more input into this team that most think. Cant believe any GM/manager combination in baseball would keep playing a guy like Weeks, if it wasnt coming down from ownership - TO KEEP PLAYING HIM Time to cut Weeks playing time and give a young guy a shot
I would think Grienke worked out pretty well. 2011 NLCS run ace AND netted Jean Segura in a trade. That is pretty good. If you refuse to trade all of your best players and only accept other teams better players, you won't be making any deals at all. Then you can take a look at the Brewers farm and realize there isn't much help coming from there either. The list of players playing at a starting level (Non pitchers) over the age of 35 is pretty short. To expect decent production from Aoki past 35 is rolling the dice moreso than trading him now, IMO. The problem with this team is that it has a #2 as its ace, a #2 as its #2, and 3 #5's filling out the rotation. You're going to need much better production out of the starters, than we're getting. Everyone is replaceable at this point. Why not give up a hitter (Which the Brewers have a surplus of) for a pitcher, which they desperately need? BTW Deiner, I don't think a decent pitching coach gets them to the playoffs this year, I do think he gets more out of what we have and gets us out of last place. You seem to think a #1 or #2 starter gets us to the playoffs, I highly doubt it. I also do not see anyone trading that type pitcher for Hart or Aoki. RK I do feel a #1 or #2 gives us a pretty good shot. The Brewers still have a streak in them, its just a question of eliminating Axford, and hoping K Rod is average. I don't think Aoki or Hart could land that guy though, which is why I'd considered it selling. My ideal candidate is someone young, with upside, but maybe has some concern that would allow the Crew swipe them up. Then let that guy get his work in AAA and try again in 2014 with, Yo, Lohse, Peralta, and then the slew of aging youngsters and this new acquisition. I'm pretty much sticking a fork in this season.

The lineup will get healthy and hit well enough, but with little middle relief help, and too many short starts, they'll never be able to dig out of this hole.
The key is too sell at this deadline.
I firmly believe that one of Aoki or Hart may need to be dealt. I still think they won't be able to afford both of them.
Maybe hiring a professional Pitching Coach? Leaving pitchers out to burn destroys their confidence. Wha the did to Burgos (sp?) is a SIN!!!! Axford give up 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning? You can't make a decision to stop that? At least go out and stop the momentum or break the rythm. RK You really think the difference between this team and the playoffs is a pitching coach? There just isn't an excess of talent laying around right now. Firing Melvin, The whole coaching staff, Weeks, Axford, whatever current reliever is struggling isn't exactly possible right now. There isn't anyone just milling around waiting to jump in, plus there is a lot of money tied up in those 8-9 guys. If anything, the way they are playing, and being coached is even more reason to sell at the deadline. What good is keeping Aoki and Hart if they aren't going to be playing in the playoffs anyway. If you can leverage even a semi decent starter out of one them who is going to walk soon, why not do it? I agree, these are the players we have. The current caoching staff is NOT getting the best out of them. YES.......I believe the right guys could get more out of this team than LAST PLACE!!!!! For God's sakes, we are behind the freakin' CUBS!!!! BTW---I keep Aoki, Hart....not so much. RK I keep Aoki too, but I'm working the phones hardcore. [b]What if the Braves called and offered up Teheran for Aoki at the deadline? Would you take that deal? Why would the Braves want Corey Hart? They already have Freddie Freeman at first and the Uptons and Jason Heyward in the outfield. Corey Hart has very little trade value. He is only going to be a two month rental. I said Aoki for Teheran, not Hart. Anyway, I wasn't focusing on the return for the Brewers, not so much a realistic trade. I also didn't want to spend half a day coming up with a mock trade just for the sake of finding out what RK would accept for Aoki.

At this time I umpire primarily fastpitch softball - all levels - men and women I still occasionally umpire adult men's amateur baseball if the travel isnt too much. In the past I umpired boys high school baseball and DII and DIII college baseball. I moved to N Wisc 10 years ago and didnt care for the travel, so I stopped umpiring high school and college baseball at that time after doing it for one year after the move. I am also going to soon be 60 years old. The travel is much harder on me these days than the umpiring. Sweet. When you ump Mens fastpitch, have you done, ASA, NAFA, ISC? Also, did you know Hank St. Claire?
