Mick Jagger wrote:There was never any doubt about Finley's talents on the field. The problems centered on Finley being a less-than-classy competitor and a less-than-desirable teammate. Finley prepped at Marshfield, I'm a Marshfield native and that was the prevailing opinion and/or conventional wisdom among the local sports fans as conveyed to me by several former hometown cronies. He was condescending to his teammates, often verbally undressing them during games. And some of his verbal assaults were not subtle either. Finley obviously knew he was head & shoulders above everyone else (teammates & opposing players alike) on the pitch. The problem was, he let everyone know it. He was suspended from the team towards the end of his junior season, and at the end of his senior season, the Wisconsin Valley conference coaches bypassed him for the "Conference Player of the Year Award," no doubt because of his lack of sportsmanship. Those are the reasons behind Finley being the object of trash-talking coming out of high school, not his physical talents or his ability to excel on the field. From what I understand, Finley has been a good teammate at Creighton. I'm sure being on the pitch among other players with similar skill sets, no doubt humbled Finley some and brought him back down to earth. Hey Mick, I don't disagree with anything you said. I only watched Ethan from the club side (watching my son try to mark/defend him), and saw him as a fierce competitor, using whatever he could to win. Sometimes that made him come off as being an arrogant jerk... I recall a number of posters (who seemed to know him primarily from the HS side) predicted his failure at the college level because of the behaviors you described. That is what I was trying to refer to when I said he "proved some of them wrong"...I'm not sure what happened at Creighton, but he had an outstanding career there. Maybe you are right, maybe he grew up a bit in the competitive environment. I've seen it happen with other talented players... I'm just happy to see a wisconsin kid succeed at such a high level. I hope he's not the last....

Just in case anyone visits this forum anymore.. Ethan Finlay was named one of three finalists for the Hermann Trophy: See News Release: http://www.nscaa.com/news/2011/12/2011-hermann-men-finalists?SPSID=89401&SPID=2518&DB_OEM_ID=1000I just remember a lot of trash talking in this forum towards Ethan about 4 years ago when he was going to Creighton....I think he proved a number of folks wrong...

At First I thought it was only Tony Walls, but also includes Ethan Finlay and Sarah Hagen From Wisconsin Soccer Central: [link=http://www.wisconsinsoccercentral.com/college/news/2536-college-news-and-notes]http://www.wisconsinsoccercentral.com/college/news/2536-college-news-and-notes[/link] UWG Announcement at Tony Walls: [link=http://www.greenbayphoenix.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=110083&SPID=13685&DB_OEM_ID=22500&ATCLID=204976043]http://www.greenbayphoenix.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=110083&SPID=13685&DB_OEM_ID=22500&ATCLID=204976043[/link] I believe Stadler from GWU was on the watch list last year... Walls & Finlay played on the same club team U15-U18, winning two regional championships and reaching the national final at U17.

[link=http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/79957867.html]http://www.jsonline.com...obituaries/79957867.html[/link] I noticed this in JSOnline just before Christmas. Mike was a long time Varsity Soccer Coach at NBW. While I've never met him, I've known the teams he coached during his tenure at NBW. The soccer community is built on people like Mike. He will be missed.

hoopsaddict wrote: Whitnall got the shaft and actually should have recieved an 11 seed and been able to beat the sixth seeded Watertown team. <Rest of stuff deleted....> Hoops...do you know why Whitnall got such a lousy seed? I was kind of shocked at that seed.
