Does anyone know which school specifically that former coach Aaron Shaw took a job at in Appleton? Would be interesting if he was pacing the sidelines at a fellow FVA school this season. http://www.postcrescent....gram?odyssey=nav%7Chead
True I guess. Why did Aaron resign? Was it simply the logistics of teaching in Appleton and coaching at Neenah? Brian Gallagher was/is teaching at GB Preble while coaching at Manitowoc. I would assume that now that he is an assistant with John Mielke in their program, that they are lining him up to be Mielke's successor. Mielke is a class act and this is just another example--planning for the future rather than dropping the ball for future teams. I hope he hangs in for awhile, he is so good at fundamentals. Shaw is teaching at East I have heard.

There are very few athletes in the program and those they do have a very low skill-level compared to their competition (Aquinas, Holmen, Onalaska, Central). Policy or not, the way this went down smells bad. Fernholz has to live with how he handled this and now with what he's inheriting. Did Fernholz play at UW-Oshkosh?

I heard it was really nice but sometimes that guy is on the radio during the Brewers games and it is hard to believe he can do all this stuff with a modest sized metal firm. I was wondering if a local fan could comment on the field quality and any unique features. If it rains will they be flooded out like in Point?
Will the winning team get thrown in with the brown trout in Lake Michigan?

Mick Jagger wrote:The immediate Fox Valley public high schools (Appleton East, North & West along with Kimberly & Kaukauna), apparently don't feel they should have to travel very far for boys basketball either. And, perhaps they don't have to. They'll venture to Green Bay (25 miles) or Seymour (15 miles) for non-conf games and road-trip 50 miles to Sheboygan (Kimberly, for a holiday tournament) but that's about it. During the 2011-12 season Neenah traveled to Cedarburg & Milwaukee. Menasha hit the road to go to Stevens Pt & Marinette. And Kaukauna did travel cross-state, mid-season, to take on Aquinas in LaCrosse
The FVA schools south of the immediate Fox Valley, i.e. Oshkosh West & North and Fond du Lac, traveled further outside the conference. FDL played at Madison LaFollette, Osh North played in a tournament in Milwaukee and Osh West traveled to Wis Rapids & Verona for non-conf games.
Overall, however, it appears the FVC teams expect the non-conf opponents to come to them. Middleton came to Appleton East, DC Everest came to Appleton North, Port Washington visited Appleton West, St Point Pacelli made the drive to Kimberly and DeForest played Kaukauna in Green Bay. Oshkosh West hosted Kenosha Bradford and FDL entertained Milwaukee Tech.
On the other hand, if FVA boys basketball teams can travel to Madison, Milwaukee & LaCrosse to play games, I see no reason why a 1-hr jaunt to Stevens Point or 90-minute drive to Mashfield or Wausau for a Friday night or Saturday afternoon football game (no school the next day) should cause so much consternation. OK--using that logic--What about the JV teams traveling to play a 4:15 game on an unlighted field in Wausau, leaving classes at 1 pm on Thursday and returning late on a school night? The FVA didn't waste money on travel. I give them credit for that. Where is that extra money supposed to come from?
