Carly is by far the best player I have seen this year!!

Congratulations to all the girls nominated for player of the month.  My vote goes to Janelle VandenPlas and the whole team.  They are all helping her to be a more complete player and that goes for every girl on the bench.  Janelle has come back from an ACL injury in her first scrimmage her freshmen year.  Her sophomore year she played in one game and tore the other ACL.  She sat on the bench for two years cheering her team on and it's so nice to see her playing again.  Good Luck Janelle and the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans!

Janelle VandenPlas definitely deserves this award for her play in the month of January.  For someone that had played in only 1 game over the previous 2 seasons, what she is doing is amazing.  Carly Emery has also been amazing, but the level of competition definitely favors VandenPlas.  Luxemburg-Casco has played Division 1 and 2 schools like New London (2x), Pulaski, etc.  While Siren plays mostly Division 3 and 4 schools.  Both players are having great seasons, but VandenPlas has done it against much stiffer competition.

Janelle VandenPlas played incredibly during the month of January, likewise throughout the entire season. Thanks to a pair of unfortunate injuries,  Janelle was only able to play in a single basketball game before her junior year. She went down early her freshman year to a torn ACL. Luxemburg-Casco fans would have to wait another year to see the long anticipated center step out on the basketball court. After surgery and a long, frustrating, and sometimes painful offseason, she returned just as strong as ever to play her sophomore year. People had waited a year to see her play, and so they had high expectations for the 6'1" athlete. Janelle was under pressure, and she handled it confidently. In her long awaited debut she put up 16 points for the Spartans. Before she could even lace up for her second game, VandenPlas found herself clutching her knee in pain once again. This time on the opposite leg. She had pulled her other ACL at an after-school practice. Though her worst nightmare had come true, Janelle stood tall to support her team from the shadows for another season. She would have to endure one more surgery, another off-season in the training room, and the disappointment of losing half of her high school career to injury. This sort of misfortune would stop a lot of players. Not VandenPlas, not by a long shot. Janelle never once put her head down. She has taken everything with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. Now VandenPlas is finally getting her chance on the court. She is playing up to and beyond he expectations. Her ability and character have been rigorously tested throughout the players' short career, and she has passed both with flying colors. Excitement is growing around this young athlete as she continues to out-perform herself with each game. We can only wait to see watch she will do next...           To Janelle: Thank you for working so hard and showing what it means to be a true player. Good luck with everything in your future.

I think you fail to grasp what this contest is all about.  This contest is about Player of the Month of January.  I highly doubt that Carly Emery scored all 1,000 of her points this past month, therefore this accompolishment should NOT be considered in choosing the honor.    Carly Emery may have what it takes for D1 college basketball, but so does Janelle VandenPlas.  Janelle has proved time and time again this past month that she deserves this award.  From scoring more points in a game than Carley Emery, to helping her team win a four-overtime game to take the lead in the conference.  A Division 2 conference I would like to add.  I doubt that any one, even you, can claim that Division 4 has harder competion than Division 2, meaning Janelle plays harder opponents every single game and still proves that she has what it takes.  Janelle was clearly the best that January 2010 had to offer. 
 
Try to focus on the facts from now on.  We aren't talking about summer and we aren't talking about the past three years.  Lets not worry about the future either, because this award if for Player of the Month of January and Janelle VandenPlas has my vote.
