VNN Athlete of the Week: February 1-7

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of February 1 through 7. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Feb. 1-7

Breanna Ackley, Stratford girls basketball: The Stratford girls basketball team improved to 12-6 on the season last week, picking up a pair of victories over Marathon and Lakeland. Ackley, in the process, surpassed a career milestone. First in the 54-27 win over Marathon, she had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. The 6'1" senior then scored 35 points as they beat Lakeland 75-63. During that game, Ackley surpassed 1,000 career points.

Allaina Robaidek, Bonduel girls basketball: With three wins last week, the Bonduel girls basketball team finished the year 20-0. Robaidek was a leading catalyst. First in a 44-33 win over Iola-Scandinavia, she had 10 points and four steals. She followed that up with 18 points and four steals in a 61-38 win over Gillett. The junior guard then finished the week with 12 points and four assists in a 70-30 blowout win over Weyauwega-Fremont.

Koy Nelson, South Shore boys basketball: South Shore picked up three victories last week, with one of those coming from a record-setting performance by Nelson. First in a 50-42 win over Mercer, he had 22 points. He followed that up with 14 points and four assists in a 58-31 win over Solon Springs. Nelson, a 5'8" junior, saved his best for last in a 72-53 win over Ashland. He made a school record 10 three point attempts en route to another school record 50 points.

Jackson Paveletzke, Kimberly boys basketball: Like those mentioned before, Kimberly picked up a trio of wins this past week riding the play of Paveletzke. First in a 67-24 blowout of Oshkosh West, he had 10 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. The Division 1, second-ranked Papermakers then squared off with Division 1, top-ranked, and Fox Valley Association foe Neenah. Jackson came one rebound short of a triple-double as Kimberly won 87-71. He finished with 28 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds. Paveletzke, who owns a scholarship offer from D1 Toledo, finished the week with 30 points and four rebounds in a 75-58 win over Fond du Lac.

Carter Vetsch, Holmen wrestling: For the second straight season, Vetsch will be advancing to the individual state wrestling tournament. In the 170 pound weight class, the fifth ranked wrestler in the state at his weight, Vetsch pinned La Crosse Logan/Central's Dylan Ellefson in the title bout to win his sectional. Vetsch's performance helped lead Holmen to a team sectional win and berth in the team state tournament as well.
