Sheboygan Lutheran's Sam Dekker has been selected as the top senior Wing player as part of the WSN Senior Boys Basketball Awards presented by Taco Bell. He was a unanimous pick by the voting panel.

A long, skilled wing player who can score from downtown as well as make mid-range jump shots, Dekker leads the state in scoring at 32.5 points per game. He has increased his athleticism this year and is able to finish above the rim. Dekker made Badger fans happy by signing with Wisconsin back in November. He is the #1 ranked player in Mark Miller's senior class ratings and is a Top 25 player by most recruiting services.

Dekker scored 58 points in a win over Random Lake back in February and has led the Crusaders to a Central Lakeshore title and state tournament berth. He shot 60.6% overall, 34.3% on three's, and 73.9% from the free throw line. Dekker averaged 13.8 rebounds per game along with 3 assists and 1.5 steals.

Dekker (2,519 points) needs just 20 points to surpass Cassville's Sam Okey for fourth on the all-time state scoring list. He poured in a career-high 58 points in a February 21st game against Random Lake, going 14 for 14 from inside the arc, 5 of 10 from behind the three-point line, and 15 of 17 from the free throw line as the Crusaders held off the Rams 80-73.

Finalists for the award were Dekker, Walley Ellenson of Rice Lake, Jordan Fouse of Racine St. Catherine's, Tanner Plomb of East Troy, and J.P. Tokoto of Menomonee Falls.

The voting panel for the WSN Senior Basketball Awards consisted of:  Nicholas Kartos, WSN President and Founder; Travis Wilson, WSN Content Manager; Mark Miller, WSN Boys Basketball Editor; John Casper Jr., Eau Claire Leader-Telegram
