The Monticello boys basketball team is off to an outstanding start to the year at 5-0, and senior Lucas Marty has been a big part of that success, averaging 14 points per game on the young season.
It is three points in particular that are gaining not only statewide, but national attention however. In a game at Highland last Saturday, Marty grabbed a rebound with seconds left on the first half clock, turned, and from inside the Highland free throw line, hurled a shot at his basket as time expired. The discus-style toss flew through the air...and into the basket.
Marty's shot was captured by the school's videographer and posted on YouTube, where as of Thursday afternoon it has nearly 95,000 views. The video quickly spread via social media, including being posted on the WisSports.net Twitter account.
It continued to go viral as numerous blogs picked it up. It was posted as an article on Huffington Post and tweeted by @ESPN. On Tuesday it was posted as a story on ESPN.com.
