Senior Girls Basketball Awards: Point Guard Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 15 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. There will be a total of 25 finalists for the five awards, five different players for each award.

WSN Senior Girls Basketball Awards -- Point Guard Finalists:

Taylor Schmidt, Algoma -- Algoma has been ranked No. 1 in the Division 4 WisSports.net Coaches Poll for much of the season and Schmidt has been a big reason for that. The 5-5 senior fills up the stat sheet for the Wolves and will do whatever it takes to get the win. Heading into sectionals she is averaging over 12 points per game, including hitting the game-winning three to beat Packerland rival Kewaunee in December. 

Jenny Tuttle, Mukwonago -- The Winona St recruit has the Indians two wins away from the Division 1 state tournament. Tuttle sees the floor well on offense and also shoots the ball well. She is averaging a team-high 14.5 points per game, including connecting on 49 three-pointers.

Chelsea Nooker, Bay Port -- Bay Port finished tied for second in the FRCC this season and were ranked in the Division 1 Coaches Poll for a good part of the season. The St. Cloud St recruit is an excellent off the dribble and terrific passer while also playing at a high level on defense. Nooker (5-7) ended the season averaging 14.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.7 steals. 

Samantha Murray, Waunakee -- The Warriors finished in second place in a tough Badger-North Conference and reached reached a Division 2 regional final before losing to Monona Grove. Murray played a large role in the success of the Warriors this season. She is a relentless competitor that is agressive off the dribble. The 5-7 guard finished the season averaging 15.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4 steals per game.

Riley Budde, South Milwaukee -- Budde helped the Rockets to the Woodland-East Conference title this season before falling to New Berlin Eisenhower in a Division 2 regional final. The 5-9 guard is very physical and not afraid to fight for rebounds. She actually led the team with nearly 9 rebounds per game while also contibuting 11 points, 3.6 assists and 2.8 steals per contest.
