WBCA announces Division 5 Girls All-State Team

Megan Gustafson of South Shore and Jazmine Harris of Heritage Christian are unanimous selections on the 2013 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 5 All-State Team.

Gustafson, just a sophomore, led the state in scoring this year at 30.9 points per game, adding 12.6 rebounds and 5.6 blocks per game in helping the Cardinals to the Division 5 state semi-finals.

Emily Gustafson, the older sister of Megan, put up impressive numbers as well, averaging 17.7 points per game and a state-best 17.7 rebounds per contest. The 6-2 senior added 5.3 blocks and 3.5 steals as well.

Harris is a repeat selection on the Division 5 All-State team, helping the Patriots to a state title last season and a sectional final appearance this year. The athletic senior forward poured in 14.8 points per game to go with 9.6 rebounds per contest.

Abbie Hein of Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran is also a repeat pick on the D5 All-State squad. The senior guard led the Lancers to the Dairyland-Small title, leading the team in scoring (19.4), rebounding (10.3), assists (4.5), steals (3.8), and blocks (2.5).

Hailey Koch put up impressive numbers throughout her career at Fall River, culminating in a senior season that saw the Pirates claim the Trailways-South title as she averaged 18.8 points and 10 rebounds per game. She is a repeat selection from a year ago.

Blaire Lutes helped Benton/Shullsburg to one of the biggest improvements of any team in the state this season as the co-op went 23-3 after finishing 10-13 last season. The senior averaged 16.9 points per game for head coach Nathan Russell.

Junior Mary Sigler of Assumption is another repeat pick on the D5 All-State squad, as she helped the Royals to the Marawood-South title and appearance in the Division 5 state title game. She led the team in scoring at 17.6 points per game, adding more than 5 steals per contest as well.

Barneveld's Rachel Slaney is part of a talented Golden Eagles squad that will play in the D5 state championship game. Just a sophomore, she averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds per game for veteran head coach Jim Myers.

Jen Wellnitz of Black Hawk, a junior, repeats on the Division 5 All-State team, as she a dominant force for the Warriors this year, averaging 20.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals per game.

Barneveld freshman Hannah Whitish broke onto the scene in a big way this season, averaging 14.6 points and 4 assists per game as the Golden Eagles qualified for the D5 championship game.
