WSN Cup trophies will be going to familiar display cases as the winners of the 2012-13 awards are the same as they have been the last three years. In the Large School Division, Arrowhead claimed a sixth straight trophy. Another huge spring season led Notre Dame to a third straight trophy in the Medium Schools Division. In the Small Schools Division, Aquinas held on for a sixth straight crown.

We did have a first in the WSN Cup this year however, as Arrowhead was unseated as the overall champion. The Warhawks had scored the highest of all schools the first five years of the program, but Notre Dame's dominating spring pulled them ahead with a total of 800 to Arrowhead's 735.

The WSN Cup is in its sixth year, recognizing schools that provide and achieve success in many of the WIAA sponsored sports. The award totals points earned in both men's and women's sports. All current WIAA sponsored sports with the exception of summer baseball are included as part of the scoring for the award.

Large School Division

Arrowhead didn't have the greatest of spring sports seasons, but did enough earlier in the year, especially the fall, to claim its sixth straight Large Schools trophy. The Warhawks' total of 735 points was more than 200 higher than the next closest competitor in the Large Schools.

Scoring "only" 127 points during the spring season, the top performance came by the state semi-final boys tennis team. The Warhawks built a commanding lead in the fall however with 425 points behind championships from the football and girls cross country teams, a runner-up finish by the girls swimming/diving team, and strong performances from girls golf and boys cross country.

Congratulations to the Warhawks and Athletic Director Kevin Flegner.

Homestead, Neenah, Middleton, and Eau Claire Memorial round out the top five in the Large School Division.

Medium Schools Division

Notre Dame trailed Madison Edgewood ever so slightly after the completion of the winter sports, but posted a dominating showing in the spring sports to claim a third straight Medium Schools trophy. Not only was the 800 point total more than 160 better than anyone else in the Medium Schools, the Tritons became the first program in the six year history of the trophy to score more points than Arrowhead.

They didn't get any titles in the spring season, but several teams finished highly, including runner-up finishes from baseball and boys tennis. The boys golf, girls track & field, and girls soccer teams also scored highly.

The Tritons were consistent, scoring the third most points amongst Medium School teams in the fall, second most in winter, and most in spring. Congratulations to Notre Dame and Athletic Director Ken Flaten.

Madison Edgewood, Shorewood, Catholic Memorial, and Mount Horeb round out the top five of the Medium Schools Division.

Small Schools Division

Aquinas made a significant comeback to claim the Small School trophy last season, but relied on a consistently high level of performance to capture a sixth straight trophy in 2012-13. This time around the Blugolds held off a mad dash from Saint Mary's Springs and Regis during the spring.

The Blugolds scored 160 during the fall, 160 during the winter (helped by a state title from the boys basketball team), and 104 in the spring.

Congratulations to Aquinas and Athletic Director Ted Knutson on another outstanding season.

Saint Mary's Springs, Regis, The Prairie School, and Lancaster round out the top five of the Small Schools Division.

Congratulations to the winners and a great job by all the teams during an outstanding and exciting 2012-13 sports season.

Look for the WSN Cup to appear in the winning school's trophy cases this fall.
