Wisconsin Sports Network and WisSports.net are happy to announce Xavier's Matt Ferris as the 2013 recipient of the Dave Krieg Award as the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin, part of the WSN Senior Football Awards. Ferris was a unanimous selection.

It has been a record-setting senior season for Ferris, who bested the state mark for touchdowns in a game with 8 passing scores earlier in the year. In Week 9, his six touchdown passes gave him 41 on the season, eclipsing the previous state record of 40.

The Hawks struggled and missed the playoffs last year, but behind Ferris' leadership, finished 11-2 and advanced to the Division 3 state semi-finals.

He completed 258 of 418 passes for a new state-record 3947 yards and 50 touchdowns, with a passer rating of 121.5.

"Matt gives our team the opportunity to win every game we play," said head coach Dave Hinkens. "He is the most complete and uniquely talented quarterback I have coached in my 20 years of coaching."

Ferris was recently named the WFCA Offensive Player of the Year as well.

Finalists for the award were Ferris, Ryan Curran of Sun Prairie, Canton Larson of Oconomowoc, Sean McGuire of Franklin, Scott Schreiber of Kimberly, and Andrew Thompson of Hortonville.

Past winners of the award include Oshkosh West's Trey Demler (2009), Franklin's Lance Baretz (2010), West De Pere's Jay Tollefson (2011), and Watertown's Tarek Yaeggi (2012).

The award is named after Dave Krieg, a graduate of D.C. Everest High School who went on to star at Milton College and later in the National Football League. Krieg ranks in the Top 12 in NFL history in career pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 12-year career.
