Splash of the Week: Poynette boys basketball

Poynette boys basketball knocked off undefeated and No. 1 Lodi on Thursday night. The Pumas are this week’s PlayintheDells.com Splash of the Week

In Poynette’s first contest against Lodi they lost 63-44 on January 21. The second time around the Pumas defeated the Blue Devils 53-51 on putback by Scott Lenius at the buzzer. 

Lodi entered the game undefeated (17-0) and ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll. 

Ethan Lurquin had a team-high 22 points for Poynette in their upset win. 

No other players reached double figures for the Pumas, but five others scored: Bradley Smith (8 points), Riley Lytle (7 points), Lenius (6 points), Tanner Bruchs (6 points), and Ben Lattimer (4 points).

Poynette also earned wins over New Glarus (76-33) on Monday and Lake Mills (52-49) on Saturday.

Bruchs led the Pumas with 25 points in their win over New Glarus. Lurquin added 15 in the victory.

In their win against Lake Mills, Lurquin had a game-high 16 points and Bruchs and Lattimer each added 12 points in the win. 

Poynette is now 16-4 overall and tied for first in the Capitol North with a 8-1 record. The Pumas have games against Lakeside Lutheran and Wisconsin Heights this week before starting WIAA Regional play next Tuesday at home against Wautoma.
