Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 15 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. There will be a total of 25 finalists for the five awards, five different players for each award.

WSN Senior Boys Basketball Awards -- Defense Finalists:

Keith Franklin, Wisconsin Lutheran – Few players in Wisconsin compete with as much passion and energy as Franklin, who routinely guards the opponent’s best perimeter player for Wisconsin Lutheran coach Ryan Walz. A quick, intelligent and relentless player, Franklin is usually first to the floor for a loose ball and is among the team leaders in steals.

Alex Hayden, La Crosse Central – Hayden does a bit of everything for La Crosse Central coach Todd Fergot, but his ability to guard players in the post or out on the perimeter is a big reason why the Red Raiders won the Mississippi Valley Conference championship. Hayden is able to use his physical strength, quickness, athleticism and mental toughness to wear down opponents.

Chris Howell, Milwaukee King – Howell is the team MVP for a Milwaukee King squad that finished one game behind Milwaukee Hamilton in the City Conference standings. At 6-foot-4, Howell can guard multiple positions as he uses his lateral movement, physicality and mental toughness to make things tough for opponents.

Isaiah Lesure, Mount Horeb – Lesure isn’t always pretty on the offensive end of the court, but his defense, desire and determination to help Mount Horeb win is a big reason why the Vikings won the Northern Division title in the Badger Conference and took a 24-0 record into a sectional semifinal matchup with Sauk Prairie. Lesure’s athleticism, length and quickness combine to frustrate the opponent’s best players.

Jordan Shea, Lodi – The UMass-Lowell recruit is a bit of a throw-back player in that he does a bit of everything in a rather quiet fashion while almost always leading the Blue Devils to a victory. Shea’s defensive ability is enhanced by his 6-4 size, his quickness and length, but most of all by his incredibly high basketball I.Q.
