Division 4 Girls Basketball Semi-Final Notes: Algoma and Cuba City advance to title game

Algoma edges St. Mary's Springs in overtime

Algoma will play for their second straight Division 4 title after defeating St. Mary's Springs 42-37 at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

The Wolves led by as many as 9 points in the first quarter, but St. Mary's Springs answered and the game was back and forth the rest of the way. 

Algoma scored the only 5 points of overtime after the two teams went scoreless in the final 5:20 of the fourth quarter end regulation tied at 37. 

Sophomore Baleigh Delorit led the Wolves with 14 points, including four three-pointers.

Senior Kenneday Blahnik finsished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists for coach Mark Zastrow and the Wolves. 

Algoma held St. Mary's Springs scoreless in the final 10:03 of the game.

St. Mary's Springs was led by junior Kelli Schrauth who finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. 

Algoma will face Cuba City in the Division 4 title game. Last season, the Wolves defeated the Cubans in a state semifinal. 

Cuba City jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and defeated Regis 52-39 to advance to the D4 title game against Algoma on Saturday. 

The Cubans started the game hot from the behind the arc with four first quarter threes and used a high pressure defense to limit the Ramblers chances. 

Junior Chloe Pustina led Cuba City with 18 points, including going 5-for-5 from behind the arc. The 5 threes without a miss sets a new WIAA State tournament record, she also tied the D4 record for most threes in a game. 

Junior Mollie Wedige finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks for the Cubans. Sophomore Jessi Marti added 9 points and 3 steals in the win. 

Regis was got 11 points each from sophomore Shae Brey and senior Amanda Giguere. 

The Cubans will play Algoma in the Division 4 state title game on Saturday at 12:45 pm. Last season the Wolves and the Cubans met in a state semifinal with Algoma winnning 62-39. 

Note: Attendance for the Division 4 evening session was 4,061.
