The 2014 Spring Baseball State Championships were marked by dominating performances, new records, and a lengthy rain delay, but four champions were crowned on Thursday in another memorable state tourney.

In Division 1, Sun Prairie capped off a three-peat, knocking off Kimberly 5-2 in the championship game. The Cardinals joined Nekoosa (1980-1982) as the only schools to win three straight championships. Senior Conner Funnell went 4-4 at the plate and threw out a runner at third from centerfield for head coach Rob Hamilton. Sun Prairie opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over Stevens Point, then topped Big Eight rival Janesville Parker in the semi-finals.

Jefferson was one of the big stories all season, as their talented pitching staff combined for eight no-hitters during the regular season. The domination continued in Grande Chute, as the Eagles dispatched Notre Dame 11-0 late Wednesday night before run-ruling Viroqua 10-0 for the Division 2 title. Viroqua got to the title game with a 2-1 win over Ripon in 9 innings as senior Mitch Stalsberg set a new all-division state tournament record with 21 strikeouts.

Wisconsin Heights dealt with plenty of turmoil during the regular season, including a coaching change, but stayed the course to capture the Division 3 championship with a 6-0 victory over defending champ Oconto. Heights topped Mondovi 3-2 in the state semi-finals.

Lake Country Lutheran capped off one of the most dominating seasons in state history with a unbeaten record. The Lightning survived a thrilling back-and-forth affair against McDonell Central, outlasting the Macks 11-7 in 11 innings. With a 13-2 win over Pittsville in the semi-finals, Lake Country Lutheran scored at least 10 runs in 27 of their 32 games.
