Trailing by 7 points after the first quarter, the South team scored the game's next 30 points to pull away for a 33-13 victory over the North at the 2014 WFCA Small School All-Star Games.

The South go big contributions offensively from several players, including East Troy quarterback Brandon Matz, who completed 9 of 12 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. Erik Van Vleet of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau went for 56 yards on 15 carries, while Racine St. Catherine's Sean Madden scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.

It was a complete team effort for the South however, as Logan Peterson of Cedar Grove-Belgium returned an interception for a touchdown (one of three picks for the South on the day) and Big Foot's Ian Gallagher connected on a pair of field goals.

The North team jumped out to a lead midway through the first quarter when a short pass from Black River Falls' Ethan Young to Barron's Jason Balts resulted in a broken tackle and race for a 67-yard touchdown. The South answered early in the second when Matz found Platteville's William Cooley from 21-yards out. Peterson's interception and a Gallagher field goal made it 16-7 at halftime.

The North would not score again until 4:31 left in the game when Glenwood City's Isaac Tuttle plunged in from three yards out.

Young finished 7 of 13 for 126 yards and a touchdown to lead the North, with Balts hauling in 6 passes for 112 yards and a score.

The South team scored a 24-8 victory over the North on the scoreboard at the 2014 WFCA Large School All-Star Game, but the margin of victory could have been much greater.

The South outgained the North 295-107, ran 19 more offensive plays, and held a 27:33 to 18:49 edge in time of possession.

Future Western Illinois teammates Sean McGuire (Franklin, QB) and Drew Patterson (Sussex Hamilton, RB) were very impressive in all areas of the offense. McGuire showed poise against the pass rush to throw for 61 yards on 6 of 9 passing and also made some positive plays in the running game. Patterson led the team with 48 rushing yards, scoring twice, and also hauled in 7 passes for 71 yards.

Still, the South found themselves trailing 8-7 late in the second quarter, when they mounted a long scoring drive capped by Patterson's second touchdown, this one from two yards out. Oconomowoc's Casey Bednarski added a 34-yard field goal just before halftime to put them up 17-8.

Quarterback Canton Larson, also of Oconomowoc, took a bootleg around left end for a 9-yard score midway through the 3rd quarter to give the South a 24-8 edge, and the score held up through the end of the game.

The South defense was outstanding all day, with Arrowhead's Billy Hirschfeld making several big plays on the line. The secondary smothered North receivers, allowing Xavier's Matt Ferris and Hortonville's Andrew Thompson to combine for just 7 of 16 passing for 46 yards while picking off a pair of passes.
