WisSports.net Week 1 Team of the Week Nominees:

Green Bay West -- Green Bay West edged rival Green Bay East 30-29 to end the state's longest losing streak at 45 games. This was the school's 109th meeting, which is most in state history. Green Bay West's last win had come on August 28, 2009 against Green Bay East. West led East 22-21 after the third quarter, but a touchdwon by East made it 29-22 Red Devils with 9:51 left in the fourth quarter. Green Bay West didn't get anything going on the following possession, but senior Darius Beach recovered a fumble to give the Wildcats another chance to take the lead back. Quarterback Brett Dejardin found Logan Cropsey for a 24-yard touchdown on a 3rd and 19. The Wildcats added a 2-point conversion to take a 30-29 lead. Green Bay East had a chance in the final seconds but their Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete.

Kimberly -- It's not often we see rematches of the previous year's state title games, and this may be the Papermakers game versus Oshkosh North may be the first rematch to occur in Week 1. The outcome was very similar to last season's 51-10 blowout, as Kimberly went up early and cruised home for a 42-6 win to open the year. First year starting quarterback Austin Weyenberg threw four touchdowns, including three in the first half, and junior running back Blair Mulholland added 195 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The team rolled up 390 rushing yards and 583 total yards of offense, while limiting Oshkosh North to just 118 yards for the game.

Mount Horeb/Barneveld -- The Vikings have been the Cardiac Kids the last few years, with a number of thrilling, down to the wire games. Why not kick off the 2014 season with yet another? Going against last year's Division 3 state champion Monona Grove, Mount Horeb/Barneveld trailed 20-10 early in the third quarter  before scoring 13 points in a span of less than 4 minutes midway through the period. After Monona Grove took a 27-23 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter, Mount Horeb/Barneveld rallied for a 35-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Thompson less than a minute later to go up 29-27, and held on from there for the victory. Thompson had 104 rushing yards, while quarterback Max Meylor threw for 159 yards and 2 scores, adding another touchdown on the ground.

Stanley-Boyd -- The Orioles and Cloverbelt rival Regis both entered the season ranked in the top three of their respective divisions by WisSports.net, and their Week 1 matchup was sure to give the winner a leg up in the conference standings. Behind a stingy defense that allowed just 104 total yards, Stanley-Boyd scored a hard-fought 20-0 victory on Friday night. The offense got off to a bit of a slow start, but broke free for 20 second-quarter points. First year starting quarterback Alex Lisiecki completed 8 of 11 passes for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day.

Wisconsin Lutheran -- In a battle of teams picked in the top five of their respective divisions in the preseason by WisSports.net, Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a big lead on Marquette and held on late for a 35-27 non-conference victory on Friday. Trailing 7-0 to start the second quarter, Wisco reeled off 35 straight points behind a prolific and balanced offense to go up 35-7 heading into the 4th quarter. Marquette scrambled for three fourth-quarter touchdowns but came up short on the comeback attempt. Senior quarterback Logan McShane completed 13 of 21 passes for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns, adding a score on the ground as well. A balanced rushing attack accumulated 246 yards despite no single player going over 90.
