The Green Bay West Wildcats have been selected as the Week 1 WisSports.net Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team ended a 45-game losing streak with a 30-29 victory over rival Green Bay East. The Wildcats were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 3609 votes were cast, as West's 1437 votes edged Mount Horeb/Barneveld's 1189.

Green Bay West edged rival Green Bay East 30-29 to end the state's longest losing streak at 45 games. This was the school's 109th meeting, which is among the most in state history. Green Bay West's last win had come on August 28, 2009 against Green Bay East.

"I don't even know what to say. I think, for me, it's great to get that first win," head coach Jeff Behrendt told the Green Bay Press-Gazette following the game. "But to see all these people and how happy they are, and the kids. Some of those seniors have been waiting a long time."

West led East 22-21 after the third quarter, but a touchdwon by East made it 29-22 Red Devils with 9:51 left in the fourth quarter. Green Bay West didn't get anything going on the following possession, but senior Darius Beach recovered a fumble to give the Wildcats another chance to take the lead back. Quarterback Brett Dejardin found Logan Cropsey for a 24-yard touchdown on a 3rd and 19. The Wildcats added a 2-point conversion to take a 30-29 lead. Green Bay East had a chance in the final seconds but their Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
