Troy Laufenberg of Waunakee has been selected as the Week 1 Air National Guard Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Laufenberg was huge running the ball and kicking it, helping the Warriors get off on the right foot this season. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 2144 votes were cast as Laufenberg's 1006 votes edged Fond du Lac's Jack Nejedlo, who finished with 564.

Waunakee did not have the kind of season we've come to expect from them in 2013, going just 5-5 and falling in Level 1 of the playoffs. That included an opening week loss to Madison Edgewood. The Warriors made sure they got off to a better start in 2014, and avenged that defeat at the hands of the Crusaders with an impressive 49-21 victory on Thursday. Senior running back Troy Laufenberg came up huge, carrying the ball 28 times for 350 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also was 6 for 6 on extra points and nailed five kickoffs into the end zone.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Air National Guard Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
