Nick Mehlum has been selected as the Week 3 Air National Guard Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Mehlum helped the Spartans upset Hudson, 35-28, with a huge passing performance. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 3. A total of 2425 votes were cast, as Mehlum's 1360 more than doubled up the 534 votes of second place Isaac Gonnering of Freedom.

Mehlum was the Big Rivers Offensive Player of the Year last season, but like the rest of his Spartans teammates, struggles to get recognition in the rest of the state. He did his best to get Superior on the map Friday night, completing 16 of 24 passes for 341 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Spartans got a 35-28 win over previously undefeated and 3rd-ranked Hudson.

He's now 4th in the state in passing yards through three weeks, and tied for fourth in touchdown passes as well. Mehlum is one of the few players to be nominated for the award twice, and may be the only two-time winner of the award since it was instituted several years ago, as he also claimed the Player of the Week honor in Week 5 last season.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Air National Guard Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 4 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
