WisSports.net Week 5 Team of the Week Nominees:

Amherst - Few league duos can match the success of Amherst and Shiocton over the last few seasons, as the CWC-8 rivals have combined for 21 playoff wins in the last three years, with a pair of state championships and a runner-up finish in that time. One may have thought it would be a close game between Amherst, the #2 team in Division 5, and Shiocton, the top-ranked team in D6. However, Amherst blew open a 7-0 ballgame at halftime to race home for a 36-0 victory. Quarterback Garrett Groshek was outstanding, completing 4 of 6 passes for 100 yards, rushing for 130 and 3 touchdowns, and scoring on a third quarter punt return. The win moves Amherst to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the CWC-8.

Lodi - The Blue Devils were an unbeaten Capitol-North Conference champion in 2013, but an early non-league loss to Wautoma and an impressive opening run by Columbus had some thinking the Cardinals were the team to beat. In a grind-it-out defensive battle, Lodi made some key plays late in the game to secure a 10-7 victory and a 1-0 start to the conference schedule. With under 4 minutes to play leading 7-3, Columbus was backed up inside its own 5-yard line. A fumble by fullback Kyle Geiger was recovered by Lodi junior Zach Steuck, and Zach Kuehl scored on the next play to provide the winning margin.

Mukwonago - The Indians jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the way as they captured a 16-13 victory over two-time defending Division 1 state champion Arrowhead on Friday night. The offensive line and backfield did much of the damage via the running game, as they rolled up 315 yards and 2 touchdowns on 52 carries. It was a balanced effort, as Colton Williams' 118 yards (on just 6 carries) was the highest rushing total. The defense did its part, forcing four Arrowhead turnovers. Senior Matt Strickler was good on a 41-yard field goal attempt as well.

Rice Lake - The game was delayed for more than an hour Friday night by lightning, but the fireworks continued as Rice Lake outlasted Hudson 56-54 in a game that fittingly came down to the final seconds. Nursing a two-point margin, Rice Lake blocked a Hudson field goal attempt with 8 seconds remaining to secure the victory. Unfortunately full stats and information for this game have not been reported to WSN or available in any other media outlets.

Wisconsin Dells - Nekoosa entered Friday's opening conference game against Wisconsin Dells riding a 19-game league winning streak, capturing at least a share of five straight South Central titles. A 92-yard touchdown pass from Nate Scott to Mason Weber in the second quarter opened the scoring, and despite a decent amount of yards by each team, proved to the only points of the game as the Dells scored a 6-0 upset. Scott finished with 123 passing yards and 75 on the ground, as the Chiefs defense held Nekoosa to just 18 passing yards. Wisconsin Dells forced a pair of Papermakers fumbles and turned back a pair of drives inside the 10-yard line during the game.
