Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

The top three remain unchanged in the Division 1 poll, with Kimberly on top once again, followed by Germantown and Fond du Lac. However, two previously undefeated teams (Middleton, Neenah) lost, as well as two-time defending champion Arrowhead. Muskego shoots up to #4 this week, while Kenosha Indian Trail moves from #10 to #6. Middleton, Neenah, and Arrowhead all drop out of the rankings this week, with Mukwonago (#7), Sun Prairie (#8), and Appleton North (#9) moving in. Kimberly and Appleton North meet up this week in one of the state's top rivalry games.

Division 2

It was a good week to be a ranked D2 team, as none of the top eight teams suffered defeat, and only minor shuffling occurred. Homestead remains a unanimous favorite at the top. Brookfield Central's Thursday night loss to rival Brookfield East led the Lancers to drop out of the rankings, with unbeaten Holmen moving in at the #10 spot.

Division 3

There were no losses by the top teams in the rankings in Week 5, but there were a few changes. Wisconsin Lutheran remains on top, but 1-loss Catholic Memorial leap-frogs Mount Horeb/Barneveld and West De Pere into the #2 spot. A loss by former #10 Notre Dame allowed Brown Deer to move back into the rankings this week at #10.

Division 4

Somerset consolidated its hold on the top spot in the Division 4 Coaches Poll, earning unanimous selection this week. Brodhead/Juda was #2 on all but one ballot. Losses by Columbus and Black River Falls dropped the teams out of the top five, and into spots #8 and #10 respectively. Little Chute re-enters the rankings this week at #9.

Division 5

The vote at the top of the Division 5 poll had been narrowing in recent weeks, and with Amherst's 36-0 shutout of defending D6 champion and former top-ranked Division 6 team Shiocton, the Falcons were able to narrowly slip ahead of Stanley-Boyd to grab the #1 position. The Orioles of Stanley-Boyd fell to #2, followed by Arcadia and Lancaster. Roncalli went down to Wrightstown in Week 5 and fell from 5th to 8th. Control of the Heart O'North Conference is on the line this week when #5 Chetek-Weyerhaeuser squares off against #10 Bloomer.

Division 6

Shiocton's shutout loss to Amherst opened the way for a new #1 team in Division 6, and both Edgar and Saint Mary's Springs got solid support. However, Edgar leap-frogged over Springs to go from 3rd to 1st, with Springs just behind at #2. Shiocton dropped to 4th. Hurley's loss to Northland Pines caused them to fall from #4 to #10, while undefeated Ozaukee makes its debut this week at #9. Boyceville drops out.

Division 7

Only one ranked team lost last week, as #1 Owen-Withee defeated #8 Abbotsford. Owen-Withee retains the top spot, while Abbotsford falls to #10 this week, as Potosi and Frederic move up one spot.

8-Man Football

While Green Bay NEW Lutheran remains a strong #1 in the 8-man poll, Prairie Farm moves ahead of Gibraltar this week, as the two teams have traded places in the #2 and #3 spots a couple times this season. Bruce had been undefeated but was knocked off by Northwood/Solon springs, leading Bruce to fall from #4 to #9, just behind #8 Northwood/Solon Springs. Luck also moves back into the rankings this week.
