WisSports.net Week 6 Team of the Week Nominees:

Bloomer - Bloomer won last year's meeting against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 7-6 to claim the HON title, but it was the Bulldogs who entered this season undefeated and mentioned among the state's top teams. The Blackhawks of Bloomer let their defense do the talking again this season, holding Chetek-Weyerhaeuser to just 118 yards of offense while forcing five turnovers and recording a safety in a 9-7 victory to take control of the Heart O'North race. Dylon Strassburger came up big on both sides of the ball, rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown while playing linebacker in the middle of the Blackhawks' defense.

DeForest - DeForest gave up 42 points in the second half of a 49-27 loss back in Week 3, but since that time the Norskies defense has returned to its normally stingy ways. They shutout Baraboo and Sauk Prairie, and in Week 6 held the explosive Mount Horeb/Barneveld offense to just 7 points. The offense did enough early on to put up a pair of touchdowns, and DeForest secured a much-needed 14-7 win over the previously undefeated and D3 #4 Vikings. Running back Jadon Sackman didn't hit for many big plays, but he did grind away for 120 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries. The win makes DeForest playoff-eligible, and they are just one conference victory away from clinching a 9th straight postseason appearance.

Janesville Craig - The Cougars started the year 4-0, but knew that the tough part of their schedule was yet to come. After a Week 5 loss to Madison La Follette, some wondered if Craig had staying power in the Big Eight race. Those questions were answered in a big way in Week 6 as they jumped out to a 17-7 halftime lead and tacked on three more scored for a 33-7 win over two-time defending league champ Sun Prairie. Quarterback Shayne Ellis did considerable damage, rushing for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns on 16 carries while adding 46 yards and a touchdown through the air. The remaining schedule isn't easy with a home game against Madison Memorial and two road games against Madison West and Middleton to close the year, but the Cougars do control their own destiny in their quest for a league title.

La Crosse Logan - There are sloppy low-scoring affairs, and there are low-scoring defensive battles. La Crosse Logan's 3-0 win over Holmen on Friday was certainly the latter. The Rangers defense held Holmen quarterback to just 31 rushing yards after he came in averaging more than 125 yards per game, and picked off a pair of passes and recorded a fumble recovery as well. The only points of the game came just before halftime when senior Josh Stevens converted on a 25-yard field goal, only seconds after he missed the first attempt but Holmen was called for a penalty that gave him another shot. The win moves Logan to 4-0 in the conference and makes them the strong favorite to capture an outright league title.

Oshkosh North - North is the defending VFA-South champion and Division 2 state runner-up, but it was Fond du Lac that everyone was talking about prior to Friday's conference showdown. North went down to Kimberly in Week 1 and had several tight games since then, while Fond du Lac was undefeated, including a Week 1 win at Appleton North. Led by three touchdown passes from quarterback Alex Hintze to Jared Dittmer, the Spartans scored a 21-14 victory that put them in the driver's seat for another league crown. It was the first start at quarterback for Hintze, an all-league running back last season. He finished with 146 yards and 3 scores through the air, with 46 rushing yards as well. He also added a key interception on defense. Dittmer hauled in 6 passes for 98 yards and a trio of scores on the night.
