WisSports.net Week 9 Team of the Week Nominees:

De Soto -- It has been a rough year for the Pirates, with former star player and assistant coach John Cina passing away from cancer over the summer and a young team struggling to find it's way once the season began. Head coach Ev Wick's crew needed a win over North Crawford in Week 9 to qualify for a 30th playoff appearance in school history, tied for the most in WIAA history with Milwaukee Bradley Tech. De Soto found a way to get it done, blowing open a close game with three 4th quarter touchdowns en route to a 32-8 victory. Quarterback Jeff Alton ran for three scores and threw for another.

Eleva-Strum -- Eleva-Strum won 15 playoff games from 2002 to 2007, including a D7 runner-up finish in '06 and a title in '07. The Cardinals hadn't made it back to the postseason since 2008 however. 2014 is a new year and a new result however. Not only did Eleva-Strum make the postseason, their 16-6 win over Independence/Gilmanton in Week 9 gave them a share of the Dairyland Conference title.

Milwaukee King -- King captured a third straight unbeaten Milwaukee City Conference title with a 22-6 defeat of Milwaukee Riverside on Thursday. It extends the Generals' league winning streak to 23 games and marks the second time in the last three years they've finished the regular season with a perfect overall record. King jumped out to a 16-0 halftime lead on touchdowns from Linzy Hudson and Kelvin Hampton before Deandre Hill-Stanton added another score early in the 4th quarter to seal the deal.

Newman Catholic -- 98 yards for a touchdown in less than 5 minutes -- that was the task ahead for Newman Catholic if they wanted to have any chance at a playoff appearance. Jake Gajewski engineered a drive for the ages, capped by a 13-yard scoring scramble with 40 seconds left to give the Cardinals a 28-22 victory, which later in the night resulted in a spot in the 224-team WIAA playoff field. Gajewski threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, accounting for more than 370 yards of total offense.

Plymouth -- If it seems like Plymouth and Kewaskum are battling it out for the Eastern Wisconsin Conference title every year, it's because they are, for the last dozen seasons anyway. One of the schools has claimed at least a share of the crown each year since 2003, and most seasons they've been 1 and 2 in some order. It was no different in 2014, as they met in the final game of the regular season with matching 6-0 league records. It was a back and forth game until Plymouth scored a safety to pull within 19-16 with just over three minutes left, then went ahead 23-19 with just over a minute remaining before holding on for the victory. Samuel Staehling scored the game's winning touchdown from 4 yards out, one of three scores on the day for the junior as he rushed for 157 yards.
