The Berlin Indians have been selected as the Playoffs Level 1 WisSports.net Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team defeated Plymouth in the only 8-seed over 1-seed upset of the weekend. The Indians were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Level 1. A total of 8,407 votes were cast, as Berlin's 3,692 votes narrowly edged Spencer/Columbus Catholic's 3,617 votes.

In addition to strong playoff showings by the top teams in the league, the last two seasons a team has come from the middle of the pack in the standings to make a deep postseason run. In 2012 it was Freedom advancing to the state semi-finals after earning an 8-seed in their region, while last year Winneconne shocked everyone to win the Division 4 state title after going 4-4 in league play.

Could Berlin be that underdog story from the EVC this year? They're off to a good start, shutting out Eastern Wisconsin Conference champion Plymouth 21-0 to score the only 8-seed over 1-seed victory of Level 1. Mitchell Kramer finished with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown for head coach Joe Stellmacher, a former Badgers safety.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Level 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
