Zach Hintze of Saint Mary's Springs had proven he has a strong leg already this season, connecting on a 57-yard field goal that tied him for 6th on the state's list of longest made field goals in a game.

Friday night, he moved his name to the top of that list.

Just before halftime of a Level 2 playoff game against Algoma that his team would go on to win 41-0, Hintze lined up for a 61-yard field goal. Taking an extra step in his approach, he drilled it and the ball just snuck over the crossbar inside the left upright to set a new state record for longest made field goal at 61 yards.

The previous record was 60 yards done twice in 1946: by Dick Hartman of Milwaukee Washington and Jake Beason of Milwaukee Lincoln. The modern record had been 58 yards, most recently accomplished by foreign exchange student Lucas Otto of Sun Prairie in 2011.
