The match-up that many people had been talking about since last year came to fruition in the 2014 Division 1 state title game, as two-time defending champ Arrowhead faced off with last season's D2 champion Kimberly. However, the outcome was decided early on, and Kimberly showed that for this season, they are a step above the Warhawks, winning 31-6.

Marking the first time a pair of defending state champs had met in a championship game, this one generated plenty of buzz, but Kimberly quickly got the upperhand. On the game's first possession, the Papermakers drove 70 yards in 8 plays, scoring on a 16-yard Blair Mulholland run up the middle.

Arrowhead possessed the ball for nearly 3 minutes on it's first drive, but got just 19 net yards before punting the ball down to the Kimberly 1 yard line. Even backed up against their own end line didn't prevent the Papermakers from scoring however, as they embarked on a 12 play, 99 yards drive that culminated in a 20-yard touchdown strike from Austin Weyenberg to Jake Johnson.

Arrowhead answered quickly on a 3-play drive, as Johnny Duranso found Justin Peret for a 27-yard score.

Kimberly found the end zone on it's next two possessions however (and all four of it's first half drives) to take a commanding 28-6 lead at halftime. Arrowhead had chances to cut into that advantage, but twice turned the ball over on downs inside the Kimberly 25 in the first 4 minutes of the third quarter. The game wasn't in doubt after that.

Weyenberg completed 8 of 9 passes in the game for 129 yards, while Mulholland rushed 27 times for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Evan Dux added 115 yards on 12 carries as well, as Kimberly rolled up 319 rushing yards. Jake Johnson hauled in 4 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.

For Arrowhead, junior quarterback Johnny Duranso completed 13 of 24 attempts for 144 yards and a score, but was intercepted once and sacked twice. Cody Sellhausen gained 88 yards on just 5 carries, including a 61 yard run in the 3rd quarter.
