Week 1 WisSports.net Boys Basketball Coaches Poll presented by ProStar

Division 1

Germantown is the three-time defending champions in Division 1, but after significant graduation losses, the Warhawks open the 2014-15 season ranked second in the D1 Coaches Poll, behind undefeated Stevens Point. Neenah, last year's runners-up led by big man Matt Heldt, is third, with Milwaukee King and De Pere rounding out the top five.

Division 2

Mount Horeb was picked first by Mark Miller in the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, and the Vikings get the nod in the opening Coaches Poll as well. Defending champion Wisconsin Lutheran is a close second, followed by Kaukauna, Rice Lake, and Pulaski. The division features some excellent D1 college talent and should be fun to watch all season.

Division 3

Poynette gets an edge to start the season as the top-ranked Division 3 team. The Pumas are 2-0 on the young season, and followed in the poll by Ripon, Roncalli, G-E-T, and Marshall. Once again there appears to be a good amount of depth at the top of the division, as evidenced by the numerous teams that got votes in the top three.

Division 4

Despite a 25-point loss to Milwaukee Riverside on Saturday, the three-time defending champion Knights of Dominican are a unanimous #1 in the Division 4 Coaches Poll. That defeat at the hands of Riverside came without big man Diamond Stone and senior guard Tywon Bressler, though Stone is expected to return Thursday and Bressler should rejoin the lineup soon as well. Mineral Point spent much of last year at #2 behind Dominican, and open in the second spot this season. Regis, Racine St. Catherine's, and Cuba City round out the top five. #8 Auburndale and #9 Amherst have yet to play a game this season, with Amherst's first contest not coming until Friday night.

Division 5

Based on the voting in the initial Coaches Poll, there are no clear-cut favorites in Division 5, with even top-ranked Wausaukee getting votes up and down the top ten. Perennial power Randolph is second, while Hillsboro is third despite no games on the schedule yet. Helped by a nice win over Pacelli Monday night, Newman Catholic is fourth, followed by Sheboygan Lutheran.

The WSN Coaches Poll is published every Tuesday on WisSports.net.
