MEN’S BASKETBALL

Quardell Young, Senior (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford), Guard of UW-Whitewater
Young helped the No. 2-ranked Warhawks post back-to-back road wins during the week and extend the team’s winning streak to eight games.  At UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 14, he tallied nine of his team-high 15 points in the final 3:01 of regulation, putting UW-Whitewater ahead for good with 1.5 seconds on the clock on a lay-up after picking up the ball near half court.  Three days later, Young shot a perfect 12-for-12 en route to a career-high 28 points to guide the Warhawks to a 71-64 triumph at UW-La Crosse.  His perfect shooting performance was the fifth in program history (minimum 10 attempts) and the second such game of his career (he was 10-for-10 for 25 points in a win over UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 11, 2014).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Teenie Lichtfuss, Junior (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes), Guard of UW-Eau Claire
Lichtfuss was a key factor for the Blugolds in defeating defending conference champion UW-Whitewater and No. 17-ranked UW-Oshkosh.  In a 64-58 victory at UW-Whitewater, Lichtfuss scored a game-high 12 points converting four-of-nine field goal attempts, two-of-four three-point field goals and two-of-two free throws in addition to collecting five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 33 minutes of play.  The win ended a six-game losing streak to the Warhawks.  It was the first win by Eau Claire at Kachel Gymnasium since a 61-34 victory on February 26, 2009.  In a 63-57 overtime win at UW-Oshkosh, Lichtfuss played 39 minutes scoring a game-best 20 points making eight-of-14 field goals, two-of-four three-point field goals and two-of-two free throws to go along with six rebounds, four assists and one steal.  The win at Kolf Sports Center ended a three-game losing streak to the Titans.  For the week, Lichtfuss averaged 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 12-of-23 (.522) from the field, four-of-eight (.500) from the three-point line and four-of-four (1.000) from the free throw line.

Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference

Aurora's Kyle Pilmer has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for events of January 12-18, as selected by the league's sports information directors. Pilmer (Aurora, Ill.) led the Spartans to a 2-0 week with his big game coming in a 79-76 road win at Lakeland. In the game he scored 27 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. The senior forward was 9-of-12 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Wisconsin Lutheran's Kristen Schulz has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for events of January 12-18, as selected by the league's sports information directors. Schulz (Safford, Ariz.) averaged 20.5 points, 15.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks over two games last week as WLC extended its winning streak to 10. The senior center posted her second 20-20 game of the season Wednesday and recorded her second triple-double of the season Saturday in just 20 minutes of action.
