MEN’S BASKETBALL

Jake Manning, Senior (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), Forward of UW-Platteville
Manning led the Pioneers to a 2-0 record during the week.  He averaged 22 points and seven rebounds, and shot 72 percent (18-25) from the field.  Against UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 21, Manning scored a game-high 21 points and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals.  Then on Jan. 24 at UW-Stout, he scored an and-one layup with 11 seconds left in regulation to tie the game up at 59 and sank the following free throw to give the Pioneers the 60-59 victory.  Manning once again led all scorers with 23 points, by going 10-for-13 from the field, and grabbed nine rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Taylor Karge, Freshman (Mankato, Minn./East), Forward of UW-River Falls
Karge scored a career-high 26 points to help the Falcons to an 83-72 win over UW-La Crosse on Jan. 24, at the Karges Center.  She had a career-high four blocks and a career-high five three-points.  Karge finished 9-13 from the field and 5-6 from beyond the arc in the game.  She also had six rebounds and a steal.  In two games last week, she shot 12-22 (.545) from the field, including 5-7 (.714) from three-point range and 7-11 (.636) from the line for 36 points.  Karge also had eight rebounds, one assist, five blocks and a steal in 58 minutes of playing time.

Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference

Rockford's Trae Blumhorst has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for events of January 19-25, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Blumhorst (Mendota, Ill.) led the Regents to a par of wins last week. The sophomore forward nearly averaged a double-double scoring 18.5 points and grabbing 9.5 rebounds per contest. On Wednesday, he tallied 11 points and 13 rebounds against Concordia Chicago for his first double-double of the season. Blumhorst then poured in a season-high 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in Rockford's upset win over Lakeland Saturday.

Marian's Sarah Olewinski has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for events of January 19-25, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Olewinski (Waukesha, Wis.) led the Sabres to back-to-back overtime wins, averaging 24.0 points and 6.0 rebounds on the week. The senior guard shot 44 percent from the field, connected on seven 3-pointers and shot 82 percent from the free-throw line.
