From the WIAA --

"Celebrating the Game" is the theme for the 100th WIAA Boys State Basketball Championships to be held March 19-21 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.

The public is invited to a special Pre-Game Tip-Off Party on Thursday, March 19 to get the celebration started. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and anyone having a ticket for the Division 5 semifinal games will be admitted and/or tickets will be available for sale at the door. During the Pre-Game Tip-Off Party, fans attending will be the first to see to the historical display commemorating the history of the tournament, enjoy a piece of anniversary cake, and at noon view a highlight video on the Kohl Center scoreboard of memorable events from the first 100 years of the boys tournament. A limited number of commemorative pins will be available to those attending the Pre-Game Tip-Off Party. In addition, a 40-page commemorative program will be available for sale along with this year's traditional game program.

During the tournament, individuals that have been a significant part of the history and tradition of the tournament will be introduced during the games. Babcock Dairy has created a special ice cream to honor the occasion called “Alley-Oop-Scoop” as determined by a popular vote on the WIAA 100th Anniversary Facebook page — like us at WIAAboysbasketball100. Lots of interesting posts have been shared on our special Facebook page for the past months.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, the WIAA will conduct its first-ever 3-point Challenge. The Challenge will showcase the top 3-point shooters from across the state, who have the highest percentage based on shooting a minimum  of 75 3-pointers during the course of the regular season. Players whose teams qualify for State are not eligible to compete.

A special one-hour documentary including historical highlights of past Boys State Basketball Tournaments will air on the WIAA State Television Network stations Saturday, March 21, at 5 p.m. If you are a history guru, check out the History link on the WIAA Boys Basketball web page as you can read the yearly accounts, since 1924, from past boys basketball tournaments as recorded in the WIAA Yearbook.
