Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 15 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. There will be a total of 25 finalists for the five awards, five different players for each award.

Senior Girls Basketball Awards -- Defense Finalists

Taylor Higginbotham, Germantown -- Higginbotham is very good at reading the offense and anticipating passes, which is why she averaged 4.7 steals per game for the Warhawks. The Western Illinois recruit is also very good offensively, averaging 18.1 points per game and connected on 60 three-pointers, both team-highs.

Vashti Nwagbarocha, Pius XI -- Nwagbaraocha is a lockdown defender that gets matched up with their opposing team's best player. She was also third on the team in scoring with 8.5 points per game and second on the team in rebounding with 5.9 per game. Pius XI plays Shorewood in a Division 2 Sectional Semifinal tonight.

Hannah Settingsgaard, Oak Creek -- Settingsgaard is a very good on ball defender that is averaging 2.5 steals per game for the Knights. The Saginaw Valley State recruit leads the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game and has a team-high 32 made three-pointers. Oak Creek plays Franklin in a Division 1 Sectional Semifinal tonight.

Jenna Smarzinski, Kimberly -- Smarzinski is a very sound defensive player that has also been asked to take on a larger scoring role when the Papermakers lost Frankie Wurtz to a torn ACL in December. Smarzinski is averaging 10.2 points per game to go along with her strong defensive play. Kimberly faces De Pere in a Division 1 Sectional Semifinal tonight.

Mollie Wedige, Cuba City -- Wedige is a strong post defender that alters shots and rebounds well. She is also second on the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game. Wedige is a big reason why the Cubans have the state's longest winning streak of 45 games entering tonight's Division 4 Sectional Semifinal against Cambridge.
