Prep Baseball Report Power 25 - April 13

Inside The Top Five

No. 1 Arrowhead continues to roll…enough said. We’re hoping to get a first-hand look at the Warhawks on Tuesday at Catholic Memorial. At the rate they’re going now Arrowhead could be the wire to wire No. 1 team.

No. 2 Bay Port stays undefeated in Wisconsin and 5-2 on the year. The Pirates should keep the No. 2 spot for a while as they don’t face a ranked team until Sheboygan South on April 30.

We previewed Denmark as one of the best pitching staff’s in the state and they are holding up their end of the bargain. Moving up to No. 3 at 8-0, Denmark shut out all three opponents this week for a total of four shutouts on the year.

Janesville Craig jumped five spots into the No. 4 slot. Craig is off to an impressive 7-0 start. They’re early wins against Janesville Parker and Stoughton are now proving to be slightly less impressive as both teams have fallen off as of late. But the Cougars are in for a tough week with contests against No. 6 Sun Prairie on Tuesday and an undefeated No. 17 Beaver Dam on Saturday, which should be a great litmus test for Craig.

No. 5 Appleton North rounds out the top five. The Lightning took one on the chin to Oshkosh West last week after a good win over previously ranked No. 7 Hortonville. This week is a fairly light schedule for the Lightning but the following week North takes on Kimberly and Oshkosh North, two top ten teams.

New And Climbing

Five new teams cracked the Power 25. No. 17 Beaver Dam is off to a hot 6-0 start with two good resume wins over West De Pere and Jefferson.

No. 18 Westosha Central was off to a 5-0 start before dropping a tough one to No. 8 Kenosha Indian Trail in walk off fashion. The Falcons are now 5-1 and take on a 7-1 Waterford team this week.

La Crosse Aquinas and Ellsworth moved into the Power 25 at No. 22 and No. 23 respectively both are off to an impressive 7-0 start and Aquinas has a solid resume win over Stevens Point.

The Big Eight is again beating up on themselves and Beloit Memorial sneaks in at No. 23. They’re 6-3 record isn’t extremely impressive but two of their losses are at the hands of top five teams and they got good wins again previously ranked No. 12 Janesville Parker and No. 16 Verona Area.

No. 7 Oshkosh North rebounded this week going 4-0 with a signature win over then No. 6 Kimberly. The Spartans jumped six spots back into the top ten.

Kenosha Tremper moved up four spots to No. 11. Getting to see them in person this week in a 10-2 win over Indian Trail, the Trojans look to have all the pieces to make a strong run. Their lineup is deep and if Jacob DeLabio can continue to pitch the way he did on Thursday, watch out for the Trojans down the stretch.

Down And Out

Several teams lost their Power 25 ranking this week. Wilmot and Burlington are off to terrible starts, both have only one win under their belts at this point.

After a 5-0 start Verona had a chance to solidify themselves as one of the top teams in the state this past week, but lost three contest to both Janesville teams and Beloit Memorial. Kenosha Bradford and Freedom also fell out of the top 25.

Janesville Parker is barely hanging on at 3-3, they are going to have to bounce back this week with No. 6 Sun Prairie on the schedule.

Watertown also fell this week after a hot 6-0 start. They split their series with Oconomowoc, and took a bad loss to a sub .500 Kettle Moraine Lutheran and are now 6-2.
