WSN Senior Baseball Awards: Infielder/Catcher Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the 2015 WSN Senior Baseball Awards.

The pre-season watch list has been trimmed down to six finalists. Winners are announced the week of the spring baseball state tournament.

WSN Senior Baseball Awards -- Infielder/Catcher Finalists:

Joe Baier, Bay Port – Baier was recently named not only First Team All-Conference, but the co-FRCC Player of the Year for the Pirates, who have been ranked in the top 5 of Division 1 all season. During the 20-game FRCC season, Baier hit .455 with 25 RBI while adding 13 runs scored, 2 home runs, and 7 doubles. 

Cade Bunnell, Stoughton – A multi-year First Team All-Conference selection in the Badger-South, Bunnell had an outstanding senior season for the Vikings. In 100 plate appearances, he hit .449 with 5 home runs, 24 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 12 doubles. His .821 slugging percentage and .560 on-base percentage added up to a whopping 1.381 OPS.

Kian O'Brien, Madison La Follette – O'Brien was named the Big Eight Player of the Year this season after hitting an impressive .527, with 18 of his 39 hits coming via extra bases (including 5 home runs). As a lead-off hitter he produced 17 RBI while scoring 39 runs, stealing 25 bases. He posted an on-base percentage of .639 with a .959 slugging percentage, thanks in part to 17 walks. He also went 2-1 on the mound with a 2.33 ERA.

Rudy Rott, Aquinas – A Second Team All-State choice last year, Rott was recently named the Mississippi Valley Conference Player of the Year. He hit .606 with a .726 OBP and .901 slugging percentage as a senior, compiling 24 RBI and 38 runs scored in 117 plate appearances heading into sectionals. On the mound he went 5-0 with a 1.40 ERA as well.

Nick Schrader, Jefferson – Schrader was a Third Team All-State choice last season and is sure to add more hardware this year. The Rock Valley-North Player of the Year, he is hitting .453 with a team-best 35 hits on the season. He holds school records for hits, runs scored, and stolen bases at Jefferson, and went a sterling 6-1 on the mound during his senior campaign.

Pete Schuler, Kenosha St. Joseph – Schuler grabbed Second Team All-State recognition last season and is in store for more accolades in 2015. One of the state's top collegiate prospects, he hit .426 as a senior, with 5 home runs and 25 RBI. He also added 19 stolen bases for the Lancers.
