Where to start in the Division 3 state title game? How about at the end, where sophomore Joe Lipsky delivered a walk-off two-run single to lift Lake Country Lutheran to a 5-4 victory, a year after they won the Division 4 crown.

It ended a crazy 7th inning, that began with Aquinas trailing 2-1 in the top half of the frame. A one-out single by Rudy Rott got things rolling for the Blugolds, who had been largely stymied by Lightning hurler Ben Wilkins. A walk and another single loaded the bases, when Alex Schulte delivered a game-tying single to left. Aquinas added another on an error from Lake Country Lutheran third baseman Andrew Buran before plating an insurance run on a sacrifice fly.

The Aquinas insurance coverage proved to be inadequate in the bottom half of the inning however. After Rott pitched the first 6 innings, Alex Dee came in to close things out for the Blugolds with a 4-2 lead.

Things started innocently enough on a ground out to second, but three straight singles loaded the bases for Lake Country Lutheran with just 1 out. Jake Hall plated a run on an infield hit off the pitcher's glove, but Dee rallied to strike out TJ Hopkins.

Just an out away from closing the door on a state title, Dee faced sophomore Joe Lipsky. Already with one hit on the day, Lipsky laced a single to right field, plating Buran and CJ Teske. It set off a wild celebration, as Lipsky raced into the outfield, chased by his euphoric teammates. They finally caught up to him in deep left field, setting off the inevitable dog pile.

It's the second straight title for Lake Country Lutheran, who captured the championship in D4 last year as well as a runner-up finish in 2013. Aquinas takes home a third WIAA runner-up trophy to go with a championship in 2007.
