Wisconsin Varsity Invitational Recap: Waukesha West and West Salem claim titles

The 5th annual Wisconsin Varsity Invitational was held last weekend at Center Court in Waukesha and Pewaukee high school, hosted by Wisconsin Impact. 

There were 64 teams at the event with teams divided between large school and small school divisions. 

According to Wisconsin Impact, over half of the games were decided by 10 points or less and a third of the games were decided by 5 points or less. 

Waukesha West claimed the large school championship, beating Janesville Craig 47-42 in the title game. 

The Wolverines finished 6-0 at the event with wins over Onalaska (46-16), DeForest (32-31), Brookfield Central (45-36) in pool play. 

On Sunday in bracket play, Waukesha West defeated Oak Creek (44-42) and Middleton (64-47) before edging Janesville Craig in the championship. 

Middleton and Arrowhead each reached semifinals and finished tied for third. 

In the small school division, West Salem captured the title with a 31-28 win over Barneveld in the championship game. 

The Panthers finished 5-1 at the event, beating Slinger (49-18), falling to Valders (27-22), and dropping St. Thomas More (46-26) in pool play. 

In bracket play, West Salem defeated Freedom (47-29), Marathon (38-36 in OT), and topped Barneveld in the championship game. 

Marathon and Roncalli reached semifinal play and finished tied for third.
