Air National Guard Week 1 Player of the Week Nominees:

Jack Dwyer, Marquette - Marquette featured one of the state's most prolific passing attacks last year, but lost quarterback Charlie Greif and receivers Jake Matkovich and Mike Thompson from the record-setting group. No worries, as Dwyer stepped in and showed he's ready to go right off the bat. Against defending Division 3 state champion Wisconsin Lutheran, Dwyer completed 19 of 23 passes for 278 yards and 5 touchdowns to help the Hilltoppers pull away for a 40-13 victory.

Micah Rudd, Edgerton - Edgerton is no stranger to big-time running backs, as Ricky Williams was one of the best in the state the last couple years. His graduation opened up an opportunity for someone to step in, which is exactly what senior Micah Rudd did. After limited carries last year, he broke out in a big way in Week 1, going for 423 yards and 7 touchdowns on 30 carries as the Tiders held off New Glarus/Monticello 48-34. His 423 yards is 10th on the state's single-game rushing list.

Mason Stokke, Menomonie - Battling a sore knee, Stokke sat out the first half of Thursday's game against Greendale, as he was unable to get it loosened up. At halftime, he worked with the trainers and rode the stationary bike to the point he was ready to go. Making a dramatic re-entry to the game, he quickly made his mark, rushing for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns on 25 carries while recording 13 tackles on defense to rally the Mustangs from a 21-7 halftime deficit. His 66-yard scoring run early in the 4th quarter put Menomonie on top 34-28, and they held on for the victory.

Gus Turner-Zick, Stevens Point - The Panters missed the playoffs last year, but the team is determined to make amends in 2015. Opening in a non-conference VFA crossover against former Wisconsin Valley rival Wausau West, SPASH ran away for a 35-10 victory. Turner-Zick, making his first significant varsity contributions, carried the ball 23 times for 303 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging better than 13 yards per carry.

Toren Young, Monona Grove - We should have figured some big offensive numbers would be put up by Monona Grove and Mount Horeb/Barneveld, and the teams didn't disappoint. While Mount Horeb/Barneveld actually out-gained the Silver Eagles and went for more than 400 yards through the air, MG kept hammering home with Young, an Iowa recruit. He carried the ball 23 times for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns, including scoring runs of 71 and 45 yards.
