Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

Not surprisingly, Kimberly and Arrowhead are 1 and 2 in the first Coaches Poll of the season after impressive opening victories. Unless one of them loses, it is highly unlikely anyone will break into that top two all season. Franklin is 3rd, while Marquette's impressive victory over defending D3 champion Wisconsin Lutheran puts them 4th, followed by Fond du Lac.

Division 2

Talk about an absolutely loaded Division. Waukesha West opens as the slight favorite in D2, followed by defending champion Menasha. Menomonie's comeback win over Greendale has them 3rd, followed by Germantown and Waunakee. Perhaps most notable in D2 are the teams not ranked: Homestead, Superior, Brookfield East, DeForest, Greendale, Ashwaubenon. All are coming off excellent seasons and appear to have what it takes for deep playoff runs, but the Division 2 field is by far the deepest of any division.

Division 3

Defending state champion Wisconsin Lutheran lost convincingly to Marquette in Week 1, leaving the Vikings 8th in the first Coaches Poll. Catholic Memorial earned the #1 position, followed by Monona Grove. Rice Lake also received strong support and comes in 3rd, followed by Pewaukee and Reedsburg. Seymour's win over Bay Conference heavyweight West De Pere allowed the Thunder to start the season ranked 6th. New Berlin Eisenhower hasn't been ranked for several years, but the Lions knocked off a very good Plymouth team 31-7 and are 10th to start the season.

Division 4

Lodi enters the 2015 season as the #1 team in Division 5, as the Blue Devils are coming off a 28-0 shutout of McFarland. Bloomer took down defending champion Somerset 12-7 to slide into the #2 spot, with the Spartans of Somerset starting the year 5th. Wrightstown and Saint Croix Central open in the 3 and 4 spots.

Division 5

The top of Division 5 is dominated once again by some familiar names from the last few years, though defending champion Lancaster does not open at #1. A close victory over Fennimore finds Lancaster in the 4th spot this week. Amherst was a near unanimous #1 after a dominating 45-7 win over a solid Omro squad. Arcadia had a close game against Osceola, but pulled out a late win and start the season 2nd, followed by Stanley-Boyd. Stratford rounds out the top five in the #5 position.

Division 6

Not surprisingly, Saint Mary's Springs is the #1 team in Division 6, though the defending champions were not unanimous selection. Edgar also got a couple #1 votes, but start the season 2nd overall. Darlington, Ozaukee, and Athens round out the top five. Pecatonica/Argyle, ranked 9th, may be one of the most underrated teams in the state, as the Vikings looked very good in beating Potosi 38-0 at the Six Rivers Jamboree.

Division 7

The state's smallest 11-man division may be the most improved this year, as D7 might have the best group of team's it's seen in several seasons. Pepin/Alma gets the edge in the first rankings, while the team they lost to in last year's title game, Owen-Withee, is 2nd. Cassville's shocking 70-22 win over Shullsburg has the Comets ranked 8th to start the year.

8-Man Football

We're excited to once again present an 8-man football poll, though we are still looking for a bit more participation from the coaches. After beating Luck in Week 1, Prairie Farm is the top team in the rankings, coming off an unofficial state title in last year's 8-Man Jamboree. The team they beat last year, Green Bay NEW Lutheran, is second, followed by Luck, Oakfield, and Valley Christian.
