Toren Young of Monona Grove has been selected as the Week 1 Air National Guard Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Young helped the Silver Eagles to a win over Mount Horeb/Barneveld to open the season on the right foot. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 4603 votes were cast, as Young's 1460 were enough to edge second place Jack Dwyer of Marquette, who tallied 1400.

We should have figured some big offensive numbers would be put up by Monona Grove and Mount Horeb/Barneveld, and the teams didn't disappoint. While Mount Horeb/Barneveld actually out-gained the Silver Eagles and went for more than 400 yards through the air, MG kept hammering home with Young, an Iowa recruit. He carried the ball 23 times for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns, including scoring runs of 71 and 45 yards.

Things don't get any easier for the Silver Eagles in Week 2, as they host last year's Badger-North co-champ DeForest.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Air National Guard Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
