WisSports.net Week 2 Team of the Week Nominees:

Franklin - Franklin more than lived up to the lofty pre-season expectations, not only defeating Greendale in Week 2 but shutting out the Panthers 37-0. It was a bit of sweet revenge after Greendale had beaten the Sabers the previous two seasons. Ben Wachter and Max Alba combined to go 12 of 20 through the air with 186 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Gavin Boeck led a balanced rushing effort that put up 165 yards. Franklin's defense picked off Greendale's Michael Jankowiak four times, including a 53-yard interception return for a touchdown by Wachter.

Loyal - Loyal lost to Owen-Withee twice last year by a combined score of 58-14, but the Greyhounds were determined not to let the memory of those games impact what happened in 2015. Hosting the defending Division 7 state champion Blackhawks in Week 2, Loyal jumped out to a 14-0 lead and held on for a 28-15 victory to move to 1-1 on the season. Colten Roehl ran for a pair of touchdowns, while Riley Geiger hooked up with Cameron Brussow for a score as well, with the defense providing a fumble return for touchdown.

Spencer/Columbus Catholic - The Spencer/Columbus Catholic co-op program has been building the last few years, including an exciting run to Level 3 of the playoffs a season ago. They appear poised to take the next step in 2015, with a 36-8 dominating win over two-time defending Cloverbelt Conference champion Stanley-Boyd serving as a statement game. The ground attack pumped out 339 yards, with both Noah Zastrow (139) and Hunter Luepke (128) going over the century mark. Luepke scored four touchdowns, while Jonny Tomke added an interception return for a touchdown.

Waukesha West - Scheduling non-conference games when you're a powerhouse program can be difficult, and sometimes requires a bit of outside the box, or state, thinking. In Week 2, West matched up against Carmel Catholic out of Illinois, one of the Land of Lincoln's top private school programs featuring a pair of Division 1 recruits. Carmel jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but it was all Waukesha West after that. Jair Scott scored on a two-yard run just before halftime to tie the game up, and West pulled away for a 28-7 victory. As impressive, the Wolverines did it without standout senior quarterback Conor Blount, who sustained an injury in Week 1. Sophomore Peter MacCudden moved over from running back to contribute, while fellow sophomore Robert Kobza also took some snaps.

Wisconsin Rapids - Rapids was the Division 1 state runner-up in 2011, but hasn't been back to the postseason since then. There's still a long ways to go and the VFA-South is shaping up to be extremely competitive, but the Raiders are off to a promising 2-0 start to the season, including 1-0 in conference after a crossover win against Wausau West last week. After unveiling a more high-powered passing attack in Week 1, it was about the defense and running game in Week 2 as the Raiders rallied from a 14-0 deficit to claim a 20-14 victory. Rapids racked up 215 yards on the ground, including all three touchdowns.
