Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

While Kimberly remains the top team in the WisSports.net Division 1 Coaches Poll, the gap between the Papermakers and 2nd-ranked Arrowhead closed considerably this week. Middleton was handed its first loss of the year by Madison Memorial, and it dropped the Cardinals from #5 to #9 this week. Marquette went down in defeat for a second time this season, dropping out of the rankings. Appleton North, with an overtime loss to Oshkosh North in Week 1 and a one-score defeat at the hands of Kimberly a couple weeks ago, shot into the poll this week at the #6 spot.

Division 2

It continues to be a battle in Division 2, though Waunakee did manage to hold on to the #1 position again this week, with the rest of the top eight remaining the same in fact. However, after spending several weeks at #1, Menomonie has now dropped two straight and fallen all the way out of the poll this week. Germantown also drops out, allowing Brookfield Central and Cedarburg to move in. Undefeated Waterford is just outside the top ten.

Division 3

Catholic Memorial spent the first four weeks at #1, but two straight losses have the Crusaders down to #8 this week. Rice Lake is on top of D3, just as they were last year, followed by Xavier, Kewaskum, Freedom, and Berlin. There are no new teams in this week, though Osceola is very close to cracking the top ten.

Division 4

It was not a good week to be a top five team in Division 4, as former #2 Wrightstown and #5 River Valley each went down to conference foes. Lodi retains the top position, with Spencer/Columbus Catholic moving up to #2. Omro's win over Saint Mary's Springs moved the Foxes up two spots to #8.

Division 5

Amherst and Arcadia continue to dominate the vote in Division 5, just as they have most of the season. Poynette went down to Lodi in a battle of unbeaten Capitol-North teams, the only loss suffered by a ranked D5 squad. It dropped the Pumas from #6 to #10 this week.

Division 6

While Edgar continues as the top team in Division 6, the big news was a second defeat on the season for defending state champion Saint Mary's Springs, who went down to Omro. The Ledgers fell from #2 to #8 this week. Marathon moves back into the poll, replacing Regis, a team that beat them earlier this season but last week suffered a second loss.

Division 7

The top five remain unchanged in Division 7, led by top-ranked Pepin/Alma. The top seven teams in the Division are all undefeated, the most unbeaten teams of any of the seven Divisions. Hillsboro had been one of those unbeatens, but went down to Scenic Bluffs rival Cashton, falling from #6 to #9. Fellow Scenic Bluffs squad New Lisbon moves into the poll this week at #10.

8-Man Football

Not much changed at the top of the 8-Man Coaches Poll, as unbeatens Prairie Farm and Green Bay NEW Lutheran continue to man the top two spots. Towards the bottom of the poll, Siren and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah lost last week, with only Siren hanging in the poll this week. New Auburn, who is 2-2 on the season, enters at #9.
