The Green Bay Packers have announced Derek Diehl of Beloit Turner High School has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Football Coach of the Week.

Diehl, who is in his first year as the head coach of the Beloit Turner football program, led the Trojans to a 44-43 victory over conference leader, Brodhead/Juda. Friday’s victory improved the Trojans’ overall record to 5-2 and marked their first victory over the Cardinals since 1991. Beloit Turner will now travel to the 3-4 Edgerton Crimson Tide with the opportunity to secure their first playoff berth since 1992.

“Considering that we are in the first year of rebuilding this program, the kids took it upon themselves to draw a line in the sand and demand a different outcome,” said Diehl. “They bought into the offseason program and our coaching staff has done a wonderful job developing our players and preparing them for each game.”

A Pittsburgh native, Diehl is a 1992 graduate of Springdale High School, where he played running back and defensive back. After high school, he attended West Liberty State, where he played running back for one year before enlisting in the United States Army. Following a tour in Bosnia in 1998, Diehl retired from the Army and moved to Junction City, Kan., where he accepted his first assistant coaching position at St. Xavier Catholic School. He then moved to Wisconsin, where he spent time coaching and playing at the semi-pro level. In 2012, he was offered the head coaching position at Williams Bay High School, where he spent three years before accepting his current position at Beloit Turner. Diehl is also the school’s district safety coordinator and building grounds supervisor.

Diehl and his staff oversee a program of 64 players, including a varsity roster of 38. His coaching staff includes Dan Barutha, Ty Kolff and Grant MClain.

Diehl and his wife, Jenilyn, have three children, Aiden, Andie and Ryan.
