The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks have been selected as the Week 8 WisSports.net Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team beat Lancaster 44-43 in the final minute, securing at least a share of its first conference title since 1988. The Blackhawks were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 8. A total of 7,152 votes were cast, as Prairie du Chien's 3384 votes votes narrowly edged Prairie Farm's 3,099.

The Blackhawks last playoff appearance came in 2010, and their last conference title was way back in 1988. That all changes in 2015 however. Already guaranteed a spot in the postseason, Prairie du Chien hosted league heavyweight and defending Division 5 state champion Lancaster Friday night with a lot on the line. Lancaster led 29-26 at halftime, but the teams couldn't get anything going in the third quarter. A Prairie du Chien field goal with 7:40 remaining in the game tied it up, and that's when things got crazy. Lancaster scored a pair of touchdowns in less than a minute and a half of game action to go up 43-29 with 3:14 left, but the Blackhawks didn't give up. Casey Hogenson returned the kickoff for a touchdown, and Dominic Wright scored from a yard out to pull within 43-42 with 59 seconds left. Prairie du Chien went for the win, and converted on the two-point pass to score a 44-43 win over Lancaster and secure at least a share of the SWC title.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 9 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
