WisSports.net Level 3 Team of the Week Nominees:

Badger - The biggest upset in Level 3 goes to the Badgers of Badger, who hung around and ended up defeating top-seeded and unbeaten Waunakee 24-21 in overtime Friday night. The Badgers, traditionally a run-heavy option team, hit on some big passing plays to account for all three touchdowns, including a halfback option pass from Isaac Ziervogel to Jordan Monroe to tie the game at 21 in the fourth quarter. In the overtime period, Badger intercepted Waunakee on its first possession, then set up a 24-yard game-winning field goal from Tias Larson to move on to the state semi-finals for the second time in the last four years.

Franklin - One coach called it the most dominating performance he had ever seen against such a quality opponent, as Franklin hammered Muskego 42-15, with a running clock for most of the second half. The Sabers scored via the run, pass, an interception return, and a blocked kick return in the game. Ben Wachter completed 8 of 15 passes for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns, adding an interception return for a score on defense. Gavin Boeck had 155 yards of offense and a pair of scores as the Sabers will face mighty Arrowhead in a titanic Level 4 showdown.

New Richmond - Coming off one of the postseason's most eye-opening wins over Rice Lake, the Tigers kept things going with a 21-7 victory over Medford to move to the state semi-finals for the first time since 1992, when they took home a runner-up trophy in Division 3. Brady Maus threw for 154 yards and a score, while Sam Altena added a pair of rushing scores for New Richmond, who will face Notre Dame in the semi-finals.

Notre Dame - It was a slugfest all night, but ultimately Notre Dame held off top-seeded and previously undefeated Xavier 21-20 in a battle of Fox Valley area Catholic school powers. After trailing 14-7 at halftime, a Nate Ihlenfeldt 1-yard run in the fourth quarter put Notre Dame up 21-14. Xavier pulled to within 21-20 with just under 3 minutes to go, but chose to go for two points and the lead rather than kick a game-tying extra point. The two-point conversion pass was no good, and Notre Dame held on the rest of the way for the win.

Waukesha West - Apparently this Waukesha West team is rather, um, good. The Wolverines hammered the Wolverines of Waterford 60-0 on Friday, holding Waterford to just 54 yards of offense and picking off five passes. Senior quarterback Conor Blount completed 11 of 18 passes for 180 yards and 5 touchdowns, with all 5 scoring tosses coming in the first half. West has now outscored its three postseason opponents by a combined 167-0.
